Eisenmann leads Skyhawks offense, Krantz pitches strong in game two

EASTON, Mass. (April 24, 2010) – Stonehill College bounced back in game two to claim a split against Adelphi University in Northeast-10 Conference softball action at Garden City Park on Saturday. Adelphi posted a 5-2 victory in game one, before the Skyhawks rebounded for a 4-2 win in game two.

Freshman Nicole Eisenmann (East Bridgewater, Mass./East Bridgewater) led Stonehill as she hit a combined 5-for-7 with a triple, run scored and RBI. Classmate Kelsey Wilcox (Canterbury, Conn./Griswold) was 3-for-6 with a double, while senior Kristen Clark (Brockton, Mass./Brockton) chipped in with three RBI.

Junior Shay Craig (Boise, Idaho/Timberline) led Adelphi by hitting a combined 5-for-7 with a stolen base, run scored and two RBI. Senior Katie Brophy (Beaverton, Ore./Gig Harbor) batted 4-for-6 with a stolen base and three RBI.

Adelphi 5, Stonehill 2 – Game 1

Adelphi used a three-run fourth inning to key its win in game one of the doubleheader. The Panthers top five batters went a combined 9-for-16 in the game while the Panthers collected 12 hits.


Senior Kristen Clark was 1-for-2 with a run scored and RBI in game one.

Shay Craig hit 2-for-3 with a run scored and two RBI, while Katie Brophy was 2-for-3 with a stolen base and RBI. Senior Rochelle Noren (Langely, British Columbia/Walnut Grove) finished 2-for-3 with two steals and two runs scored, while freshman Amy Ogden (Waterford, Conn./Waterford) batted 2-for-3 with two doubles and an RBI.

Junior Leighann Bell (East Islip, N.Y./East Islip) picked up the win (10-9) in the circle, allowing the two earned runs on five hits with four strikeouts and two walks over seven innings.

Nicole Eisenmann led Stonehill by hitting 2-for-3 with a triple, while Kristen Clark finished 1-for-2 with a walk, run scored and RBI. Junior Katy Abarr (Richmond, R.I./The Prout School) chipped in by going 1-for-3 with an RBI.

Senior Kait Mendall (Middleboro, Mass./Coyle & Cassidy) took the loss (6-3), allowing five runs, four earned, on ten hits with a strikeout and no walks in five innings.

Stonehill struck first with a run in the third as Eisenmann tripled and pinch-runner Kaitlin Miller (Derry, N.H./Pinkerton Academy) scored on a fielder’s choice.

Adelphi answered with two in the home half to take the lead. Craig drove in the tying run with a bunt and Ogden added an RBI double. The Panthers added three in the fourth on a sacrifice fly by Brophy, an RBI single from Craig and an RBI double by freshman Jeanine Leo (Staten Island, N.Y./Tottenville).

Stonehill got a run back in the sixth as Clark drew a leadoff walk and scored on an infield single from Abarr to close out the scoring.

Stonehill 4, Adelphi 2 – Game 2

Sophomore Samantha Krantz (Hampton Bays, N.Y./Hampton Bays) was strong in the circle and Nicole Eisenmann and sophomore Chelsea Stryker (Baldwin, N.Y./Kellenberg Memorial) led the offense as Stonehill earned a split with a 4-2 win in game two.


Sophomore Samanthan Krantz didn't allow an earned run in picking up her seventh win of the year in game two.

Krantz earned the win (7-5), allowing two unearned runs on seven hits with three strikeouts and a walk in 6.2 innings. Sophomore Kaitlin Andrews (Hudson, Mass./Hudson) entered in the seventh with two runners on base and struck out the only batter she faced to earn her first save of the year.

Eisenmann hit 3-for-4 with an RBI and run scored for the Skyhawks, while Stryker finished 2-for-4 with a stolen base and two runs scored. Kristen Clark batted 1-for-4 with a double and two RBI, while Kelsey Wilcox went 2-for-3.

Katie Brophy led Adelphi by hitting 2-for-3 with a double and two RBI. Shay Craig finished 3-for-4.

Senior Christine Robinson (Oceanside, N.Y./Sacred Heart Academy) took the loss (10-10), allowing four runs, three earned, on nine hits with four strikeouts and two walks over seven innings.

Stonehill jumped ahead with a run in the first as Stryker reached with a one-out bunt single and later scored on a single to left by Eisenmann. The Skyhawks added three in the third as Stryker reached on a fielder’s choice and scored when Eisenmann reached on an error before Clark belted a two-run double to left.

Adelphi closed within two with a pair of runs in the fifth on a two-run double to left center by Brophy.

Stonehill (17-13-1, 12-8 NE-10) is back in action on Sunday, when it visits Pace University for an NE-10 doubleheader at noon. The Skyhawks return home on Tuesday to host Saint Anselm College for a doubleheader at 3:30 p.m. Adelphi (23-21, 11-11 NE-10) hosts Bentley University on Sunday at 1 p.m.
