Six-run first powers Hawks to 9-1 five-inning win in game one
Eisenmann's sixth-inning two-run homer lifts Skyhawks to 2-1 win in game two

EASTON, Mass. (April 29, 2010) – Stonehill College split a doubleheader with Saint Anselm College in Northeast-10 Conference softball action at Fr. William Gartland, C.S.C., Field this afternoon. The Hawks posted a 9-1 win in five innings in game one, before the Skyhawks rebounded with a 2-1 win in game two.

Freshman Nicole Eisenmann (East Bridgewater, Mass./East Bridgewater) led Stonehill as she hit a combined 3-for-5 with a double, home run and two RBI. Her two-run homer in the bottom of the sixth lifted the Skyhawks to the 2-1 win. Freshman Casey Remick (Norton, Mass./Norton) was 2-for-4 for the day.

Junior Liz Trafton (Berwick, Maine/Seacoast Christian) led Saint Anselm by batting a combined 3-for-5 with a run scored and RBI. Classmate Jackie Giannino (Beverly, Mass./Bishop Fenwick) was 3-for-6 with two runs scored, a stolen base, double, home run and two RBI.

Saint Anselm 9, Stonehill 1 – Five innings (Game One)

Saint Anselm used a six-run first inning to fuel a 9-1 victory over Stonehill in five innings in game one.


Junior Ashley Langlois doubled in Stonehill's lone run in game one.

Jackie Giannino hit 2-for-3 with a double, stolen base and two runs scored, while senior Moira McCabe (Brookline, N.H./Bishop Guertin) finished 2-for-3 with two runs scored. Freshman Lauren Galavotti (Marion, Mass./Old Rochester Regional) batted 2-for-3 with an RBI. Junior Kayla McEachern (Stoneham, Mass./Stoneham) was 1-for-3 with a home run and two RBI.

Freshman Shannon Dalton (Concord, Mass./Concord-Carlisle) picked up the win in the circle for the Hawks, allowing an earned run on five hits with two strikeouts and no walks over five innings.

Junior Ashley Langlois (Ridgefield, Conn./Ridgefield) paced Stonehill by hitting 1-for-2 with a double and RBI. Freshman Kelsey Wilcox (Canterbury, Conn./Griswold) batted 1-for-2 with a run scored, while Nicole Eisenmann chipped by going 1-for-2.

Senior Kait Mendall (Middleboro, Mass./Coyle & Cassidy) took the loss, surrendering nine runs, eight earned, on 12 hits with three strikeouts and no walks over 3.2 innings. Sophomore Kellie Reardon (Burlington, Mass./Arlington Catholic) pitched 1.2 hitless innings of relief, yielding just a walk with a strikeout.

The first eight Saint Anselm batters reached base and the first six scored, the first five before an out was made, as the Hawk staked out a 6-0 lead after a half inning of play and never looked back. McEachern followed up a leadoff single from McCabe with her seventh home run of the season through the wind to left center for a quick lead. Freshman Amanda Massad (Grafton, Mass./Grafton Memorial) and sophomore Kat Scafidi (Hudson, N.H./Alvirne) both added RBI singles, while Giannino scored on an error and Massad scored with the aid of a second Stonehill error in the frame.

Stonehill got one of those runs back in the second as Wilcox singled to left with two out and scored on Langlois' double to right center. Saint Anselm took that run right back in the top of the third as freshman Kylene Pease (Ashland, Mass./Ashland) singled up the middle with two out, stole second and scored on a single to left center by Galvotti.

Saint Anselm put the eight-run rule into effect with two in the fourth on an RBI double by Giannino and an RBI sacrifice bunt from Liz Trafton. Stonehill threatened to keep the game alive in the home half, placing the first two runners on base, but couldn't get anything across the plate.

Sophomore Samantha Krantz picked up her eighth win of the year with a dominant performance in the circle in game two.

Nicole Eisenmann's third home run of the season off the scoreboard in right center in the bottom of the sixth inning lifted Stonehill to a 2-1 win in game one.

Kelsey Wilcox led off the sixth with a single through the right side and was lifted for sophomore pinch-runner Lindsay Bock (Amherst, N.H./Souhegan) before Eisenmann's deciding blast came with one out.

Eisenmann finished 2-for-3 with a double, the home run and two RBI. Casey Remick and freshman Kaitlin Miller (Derry, N.H./Pinkerton Academy) both hit 2-for-2 for the Skyhawks.

Sophomore Samantha Krantz (Hampton Bays, N.Y./Hampton Bays) earned the win in the circle (8-5) for Stonehill, allowing the one earned run on six hits with five strikeouts and no walks over seven innings.

Liz Trafton was 2-for-3 for Saint Anselm, while Jackie Giannino finished 1-for-3 with a home run.

Senior Megan Lemire (Worcester, Mass./St. Peter Marian) took the loss (8-9) for the Hawks, yielding two earned runs on eight hits with a strikeout and no walks over six innings.

Saint Anselm struck early again, scoring its lone run in the top of the first with Giannino's seventh homer of the season with two out.

Stonehill (19-15-1, 14-10 NE-10) is back in action when it continues its six-game home stand to round out the regular season on Saturday as it hosts The College of Saint Rose for a Northeast-10 doubleheader at Fr. Gartland Field starting at noon. Saint Anselm (18-22, 11-15 NE-10) hosts the University of New Haven on Saturday at 1 p.m.
