Bentley Tops Men's Tennis, 8-1

Samander leads five double-winners for Falcons

WALTHAM, Mass. (April 9, 2016) – Bentley University posted an 8-1 victory over Stonehill College in Northeast-10 Conference men's tennis action today.

Sophomore George Samander (Willemstad, Curacao) led five Bentley players who notched both singles and doubles wins for the match with victories at No. 1 doubles and No. 2 singles. He combined with classmate Brendan McCarthy (Falmouth, Maine/Falmouth) for an 8-1 doubles win as the Falcons swept the three doubles matches to set the tone for the win. Samander followed that up with a 6-1, 6-1 singles win against Stonehill sophomore Nikolay Lisichenok (Danvers, Massachusetts/Danvers).

Junior Chase Rosa (Hampton, New Hampshire/Berwick Academy) and freshman Dylan Granat (Woodbury, New York/Syosset) teamed up to grind out a 9-8 (7-4) decision at No. 2 doubles for Bentley. Granat added a 6-0, 7-5 win at No. 3 singles against junior Joan Castillo (Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic/St. Joseph School), while Rosa claimed a 6-3. 6-3 win at No. 4 against sophomore Tom Buckley (Hebron, Connecticut/RHAM) at No. 4. Freshmen Michael Fuca (Manchester, Massachusetts/Manchester-Essex) and Brett Gilman (Mahwah, New Jersey/Mahwah) rounded out the double-winners for the Falcons with victories at No. 5 and 6 singles, respectively, as well as No. 3 doubles.

Sophomore Thomas Bellio (Saint Joseph, Michigan/Saint Joseph) collected Stonehill's point with a 6-4, 6-1 win at No. 1 singles against McCarthy.

Stonehill (7-6, 4-2 NE-10) looks to get back on track on Tuesday when it hosts Southern New Hampshire University for its Purple & White Match at 3:30 p.m. Bentley (11-4, 4-1 NE-10) hosts Adelphi University on Tuesday at 3 p.m.
