NE-10 FIRST ROUND: #3 Adelphi Advances Past #6 Men's Tennis, 5-0

Litvinchuk and Brenner post singles and doubles wins to lead Panthers

GARDEN CITY, N.Y. (April 27, 2016) – Third-seeded Adelphi University, ranked seventh in the most recent NCAA and Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Division II East Regional rankings, posted a 5-0 victory over sixth-seeded Stonehill College in first round action of the 2016 Northeast-10 Conference Men's Tennis Tournament at Adelphi Tennis Courts this afternoon.

Adelphi (10-7, 8-2 NE-10) advances to Friday's semifinal round and will visit second-seeded Merrimack College (10-8, 9-1 NE-10) at Phillips Academy in Andover, Massachusetts, at 10:30 a.m. The Warriors earned one of two first round byes in the NE-10 Tournament and Friday's semifinal will be a rematch of the 2015 NE-10 Championship. Stonehill wraps up its season with a 9-10 record overall, including 5-5 in the NE-10, having earned a 17th-straight NE-10 Tournament appearance.

Seniors Sander Brenner (Port Washington, New York/Paul D. Schreiber) and Uladzislau Litvinchuk (Brest, Belarus) led Adelphi to a first round win over Stonehill for the fourth straight year with singles and doubles wins. Brenner teamed up with freshman Daniel Khodosh (Roslyn Heights, New York/The Wheatley School) for an 8-6 win at No. 3 doubles. He followed that up by earning the deciding fifth point for the Panthers by defeating Stonehill junior Joan Castillo (Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic/St. Joseph School) 6-2, 6-2 at No. 3 singles.

Litvinchuk and sophomore Matteo Cannavera (Quartu Sant'Elena, Italy), the NE-10 Player of the Year, notched an 8-1 win at No. 1 doubles and then Litvinchuk rolled to a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 2 singles against sophomore Nikolay Lisichenok (Danvers, Massachusetts/Danvers). Junior Roey Heymann (Old Bethpage, New York/Plainview-Old Bethpage) and freshman Connor Dove (Baldwin, New York/Long Island Lutheran) completed the Panthers sweep of the three doubles matches with their 8-4 decision at No. 2.
