Lisichenok and Castillo post Skyhawks point at No. 2 doubles

EASTON, Mass. (February 29, 2016) – Stonehill College, ranked ninth in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Division II East Regional rankings, opened its spring schedule with an 8-1 defeat to Queens (N.Y.) College, ranked fifth in the region, in non-conference men's tennis action at the Sally Blair Ames Sports Complex on Sunday.

Junior Sharvill Nawghre (Nagpur, India) led four double-winners for Queens with victories at No. 1 singles and doubles. He combined with sophomore Roman Laga (Baiersbronn, Germany) for an 8-3 doubles win and then added a 6-2, 6-4 singles win against Stonehill sophomore Thomas Bellio (Saint Joseph, Michigan/Saint Joseph). Laga was also a double-winner for the Knights, posting a 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 4 singles against sophomore Tom Buckley (Hebron, Connecticut/RHAM).

Junior Joan Castillo (Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic/St. Joseph School) and sophomore Nikolay Lisichenok (Danvers, Massachusetts/Danvers) combined for an 8-5 win at No. 2 doubles for Stonehill against junior Ryan Frankel (Bournemouth, England), the 14th-ranked singles player in the East Region by the ITA, and sophomore Federico Toscano (Buenos Aires, Argentina).

Stonehill (3-1, 1-0 NE-10) returns to action next week when it plays three matches during its Spring Break trip to Central Florida, opening Tuesday, March 8, against Cedarville University of Ohio at San Lando Tennis Center in Altamonte Springs, Florida, at noon. The Skyhawks return home on Tuesday, March 29, to host American International College for a Northeast-10 dual match at 3 p.m. Queens (3-2, 0-0 ECC) hosts Merrimack College on Saturday, March 12, at 11 a.m.
