Lisichenok makes it three for three for Skyhawk Players of the Week after Buckley tabbed for second straight week
EASTON, Mass. (September 29, 2015) – Stonehill College student-athletes have collected Northeast-10 Conference Player of the Week honors in men's tennis all three weeks so far this season following the league's announcement on Monday night.
Sophomore Nikolay Lisichenok (Danvers, Massachusetts/Danvers) has been named the NE-10 Player of the Week for this past week after classmate Tom Buckley (Hebron, Connecticut/RHAM) collected the honors for the second straight week a week ago after sharing the honors with sophomore Tom Bellio (Saint Joseph, Michigan/Saint Joseph) following the first week of the season.
Lisichenok earned wins at No. 2 doubles and No. 3 singles to lead Stonehill to a 7-2 win at Franklin Pierce University in the Skyhawks lone match of the week. He teamed up with junior Joan Castillo (Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic) for an 8-4 win against Franklin Pierce's James Bisazza and Olivier Viel as the Skyhawks swept the three doubles matches on their way to the win in their NE-10 opener. Lisichenok followed that up with a 6-2, 6-4 singles win against Andrew Schadt.
Lisichenok is a combined 5-5 in singles and doubles play this season, having posted a 2-1 singles mark with wins at No. 2 and 3. He has a combined 3-4 mark with two different doubles partners, having won his lone match with Castillo. Lisichenok and freshman Dimitri Vlassov (Marblehead, Massachusetts/Marblehead) reached the quarterfinals of the B-Doubles draw at the United States Tennis Association (USTA) Division II East Regional as well.

Lisichenok earned All-Northeast-10 Conference second team honors at No. 1 doubles as a freshman along with Bellio. He is a combined 38-19 in singles and doubles play so far during his young collegiate career. Lisichenok has posted a 17-8 singles mark, including 8-2 in NE-10 play, while adding a 21-11 doubles clip, including 8-3 in Conference play. He also earned NE-10 Commissioner's Honor Roll status both semesters his freshman year and an Athletic Director's Honor Roll spot for the fall semester.
Buckley earned NE-10 Player of the Week honors for the second straight week on September 22 after he posted a combined 9-2 record in singles and doubles play, reaching the B-Doubles bracket final with Bellio at the ITA East Regional. He also advanced to the third round of the B-Singles bracket and earned singles and doubles wins in the Skyhawks 6-3 win over Clark University.
Buckley, also named to the NE-10's weekly honor roll this week, is a combined 14-2 in singles and doubles play so far in his sophomore season. He has posted a 5-1 singles mark, winning his lone NE-10 match, while adding a 9-1 doubles mark with two different playing partners. Buckley and Bellio are 8-1 in doubles play, including an NE-10 win, having won the A-Flight at the Stonehill Doubles Invitational this fall, in addition to its deep run at ITAs.
Buckley is a combined 29-11 in singles and doubles play in his Stonehill career, including 23-9 for doubles. He earned All-Northeast-10 second team honors at No. 3 doubles as a freshman along with his playing partner, Jared Drzal '15. Buckley was also named to the NE-10 Commissioner's Honor Roll for the spring semester.
Stonehill (2-0, 1-0 NE-10) closes out its fall schedule on Thursday when it visits Endicott College for a non-conference match at 3:30 p.m.
