The Details

  • Neither side let up in the first half as each school only took five shots thanks to strong defense from both squads. The Skyhawks had opportunites early, but the shots were wide of the net. Stonehill's first descent chance in the half came when Woznicki sent his shot to Mann's left side but the Tommie's goalie came up with the stop.
  • Shane Fonseca had Stonehill's last solid look in the first half at the 35-minute mark when he tried to put his shot past Mann's left side but again, Mann made the save.
  • Along with the Skyhawks stellar defense, Stonehill goalie, Ryan Coutu did his part to keep the Skyhawks within striking distance. Saint Thomas had an opportunity at 26:53 when Carver Tierney sent his shot to the top the net, but Coutu extended to make the clutch save.
  • As the second half started, Saint Thomas upped their offenseive play but Coutu continued to make big-time stops including one just two minutes into the frame (49:07). Later in the contest (73:33 and 74:17), the Tommies peppered Coutu with back-to-back shots from Gunnar Busch and Charlie Holton but the Stonehill netminder made the big-time stops and kept things scoreless.
  • However, at 78:10 Woznicki broke the scoreless contest when he found the back of the net and gave the Skyhawks a late 1-0 advantage. Woznicki's goal not only leads the team, but also leads the Northeast Conference
  • From that point on, the Stonehill defense and Coutu held Saint Thomas at bay to preserve shutout for the victory.
  • Overall on the day, Coutu finished with five saves and it is the third-straigtht start where he finsihed with five or more saves.
