NEC Field Hockey Postseason Awards Release

EASTON, Mass. (November 2, 2022) – Stonehill College sophomore goalkeeper Shannon Conte has made more program history with her selection to the All-Northeast Conference (NEC) second team by the Conference's eight head coaches the league announced this afternoon.

Conte is the first All-NEC selection in program history for Stonehill field hockey, which has now recorded 72 All-Conference selections in the program's 26-year history, as the program recently completed its first NCAA Division I season as members of the NEC. She started all 15 games for the Skyhawks this fall, playing all but four empty net minutes in goal, and posting double-figure save totals in ten games, including a string of six-straight games towards the end of the year. Conte posted a career-high 18 stops at Fairfield University on October 28 and registered 14 saves in her first career start at Hofstra University to open the season back on August 27. She also chipped in 15 saves in a 1-0 setback at Saint Francis (Pa.) University on October 23, with the lone goal allowed coming on a penalty stroke.

Conte set a program-record with her 163 saves this season, surpassing the previous mark of 154 saves by Jamie Sisko, '98 during Stonehill's second varsity season in 1997. She has totaled 169 saves over her first two collegiate seasons, a total that already ranks eighth on the program's all-time career list. Her save total this fall leads the NEC by nearly 70 stops, while also leading the Conference with 10.9 saves per game and ranking second for minutes played and fourth in save percentage. She posted a 4.00 goals against average and .729 save percentage in 929:13 over the 15 games.

Conte is a two-sport student-athlete at Stonehill, having appeared in 33 games at catcher and third base for the Skyhawks softball team during her freshman season in the spring. She finished hitting .226 (19-for-84) with four doubles, six runs scored and seven RBI, delivering her first career home run against Franklin Pierce University on April 27.

Stonehill completed its inaugural NCAA Division I season with a 3-12 record overall, including a 1-6 mark in the NEC. The Skyhawks earned their first win at the Division I level with a 4-3 victory over Lindenwood (Mo.) University on September 11, adding their first NEC triumph with a 2-1 shootout decision over Merrimack College at W.B. Mason Stadium in its first Division I home on October 7.
