Conte shines in goal for Skyhawks again with career-high 18 saves

FAIRFIELD, Conn. (October 28, 2022) – Fairfield University scored in each quarter on its way to a 5-0 victory over Stonehill College in a Northeast Conference (NEC) field hockey matchup at University Field this afternoon.

Highlights

  • Stonehill sophomore Shannon Conte logged double-digit saves for the seventh-straight game and tenth time this season overall, and in the process broke the program's single-season save record, as she finished with a career-high 18 stops this afternoon.
  • Five different Stags scored goals for Fairfield on the afternoon, finding goals in each quarter before sealing the win with a pair in the fourth.
  • Junior Carmel Van Dijk had a goal and assist for Fairfield, while postgrad Nora Amme dished two assists, both notching their points after halftime.
  • Sophomore Emma Radebaugh gave the Stags a lead late in the opening quarter, while seniors Julianna Kratz, Madison Hoskins and Katie Keane each chipping in goals.
  • Sophomore Payton Rahn and freshman Olivia Warchol shared the goalkeeping duties in the shutout win for Fairfield, with Rahn notching a second quarter save in her 49:30 in goal.

How It Happened

  • Radebaugh opened the scoring with 5:01 to play in the opening quarter off a cross from freshman Alex Senior.
  • Kratz doubled the Stags lead just six-seconds before halftime, scoring her fifth goal of the year off a deflection in front, with sophomore Erin McGinley assisting.
  • Fairfield added a third 3:51 into the second half with Amme finding Hoskins with a cross from the left side for her second goal of the year.
  • Van Dijk had a hand on both fourth quarter goals for Fairfield, netting her first goal off a pass from Amme, before turning provider on Kean's first goal of the year with 3:53 to play.

Noteworthy

  • Conte's career-high saves today brings her season total to 162 for the fall, surpassing the program's single-season record of 154 by Jamie Sisko during the program's second varsity season in 1997.
  • This afternoon marked Stonehill's final NEC matchup of its inaugural NCAA Division I season.
