Malloy Earns NEC Freshman of the Year

EASTON, Mass. (October 31, 2022) – Stonehill College women's cross country finished their season this past weekend with a huge debut at the Northeast Conference (NEC) Championships, placing second overall in a tiebreaker after finishing tied with Central Connecticut State University. One Skyhawk was awarded Freshman of the Year for her impressive first collegiate season competing for Stonehill.

At each race she ran in, freshman Jordan Malloy (Colchester, Connecticut/Bacon Academy) helped Stonehill climb the leaderboard each week. She earned a record of five NEC Rookie of the Week awards this season and capped the season with NEC Freshman of the Year.

  • Vermont Invitational (St. Albans, Vt.): In her collegiate debut, Jordan Malloy ran a time of 19:20.50, placing 18th place.
  • Shawn M. Nassaney Invitational (Smithfield, R.I.): Molloy finished the race in 19:46.90, placing within the top 25.
  • UMass Dartmouth Invitational (Dartmouth, Mass.): the freshman finished in tenth place with her time of 18:21.00.
  • Paul Short Run (Bethlehem, Pa.): finished with a time of 22:06.8, making that the seventh best time on the course.
  • New England Championships (Dorchester, Mass.): posted a finishing time of 18:54, placing 21st out of 122.
  • NEC Championships (Tyrone, Pa.)Malloy capped her impressive freshman year with a time of 18:38.9, grabbing ninth as the top freshman finisher in the race, to earn All-NEC honors as well.

 

"Jordan is a great addition to our women's team," said Stonehill's Hall of Fame head coach Karen Boen. "She is extremely coachable and a fantastic teammate. Many times, freshmen will struggle under pressure, but Jordan has risen to the occasion in every race she has run, regardless of the level of competition. She is such a well-rounded student-athlete. I look forward to watching her continue to develop."
