Women's Swimming Snags Multiple Team Records on Day 3 of NEC Championship

GENEVA, Ohio (February 23, 2023) – The Stonehill College women's swimming team has continued to perform at the 2023 Northeast Conference Women's Swimming & Diving Championship meet at the Spire Institute Pool in Geneva, Ohio, finishing day three. The team continues to make new team records and personal bests.

On day 3 of the meet, the preliminary time trials began at 10 am, where multiple Skyhawks competed:

Highlights

  • After making it to the finals of the 200-yard IM yesterday, freshman Kristy Barry continues to make strides in the championship meet. Barry competed in the 400-yard IM today, finishing with a time of 4:44.81 in the preliminary round, qualifying for the final time trials in the event at 6 PM. Then, during the 6 PM finals, Barry swam the 400-yard IM and placed 22nd in 4:43.96, a new personal and team record in the event.
  • Junior captain Sydney Stockwell competed in her first individual event of the meet, swimming in the 100-yard butterfly, grabbing a preliminary time of 59.39, a personal season best, and qualifying her for the final 100-yard butterfly event tonight. Stockwell then competed in the final round of the 100-yard butterfly, finishing in 22nd with a time of 59.86.

  • Sophomore Sharlotte Lundell swam in the 100-yard butterfly event this morning, earning a prelim time of 1:02.21.
  • Junior Katie Keating also competed in the 100-yard butterfly race today, snagging a prelim time of 1:00.45, a personal season best for the junior.
  • Freshman Isabel Nelson took to the pool to compete in the 100-yard butterfly event, grabbing a prelim time of 1:03.18, a personal season best.
  • Senior Maggie Timmoney swam hard in the 100-yard butterfly, snagging a preliminary time of 1:05.62, a new personal best by three seconds. The senior also swam in the preliminary 200-yard freestyle race as well, earning a prelim time of 2:14.13, and another personal best.
  • Sophomore Sofiya Gobora hopped in the water to swim in the 200-yard freestyle event this morning, earning a preliminary time of 1:59.37, a new team record in the event.
  • Senior captain Nika Sokolova hit the pool to compete in the 200-yard freestyle, finishing with a preliminary time of 2:00.49, and a new personal record for the senior.
  • Freshman Mazy Karuzis swam in the 200-yard freestyle event, where the freshman earned a prelim time of 2:00.53
  • Junior captain Maddie Conley jumped in the water to compete in the 200-yard freestyle event, earning a preliminary time of 2:04.14
  • Sophomore Julie Mastroianni swam in the 200-yard freestyle this morning, hitting the finish line with a prelim time of 2:06.79.

"I am really happy with the team's performance today. We are continuing to break individual and relay records and continue to grow mentally as a team. I am especially happy that both our A and B 200 Free relay teams beat our record from this past December as well."
