Brodahl posts third round 81 to finish tied for 32nd overall as Skyhawks post seventh place team finish

GLENCOE, Ala. (March 12, 2024) – Stonehill College wrapped up play at the Chris Banister Intercollegiate, presented by Grub Mart, and hosted by Jacksonville State University on the 5,890-yard, par 72 layout at the Silver Lakes Course on the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail today.

Freshman Helen Brodahl led the way for Stonehill once again with a third round 81 to complete the three-day event tied for 32nd overall with a 246 (87-78-81) score. She played one-under-par through her first six holes of the round answering a bogey on the 11th hole with a birdie on the par-4 12th and par-4 15th with back-to-back pars in between to finish her first nine at four-over-par 40. Brodahl totaled eight total pars in her round to go with the pair of birdies, leading three Skyhawks separated by just two strokes on the day. Stonehill posted a third round score of 331 for the second-straight day to maintain a seventh place finish (357-331-331=1019), 11 shots better than South Alabama (356-336-338=1030).

Freshman Carol Pignato and sophomore Jaelyn DeBoise also recorded solid rounds on Tuesday to complete the tightly packed trio of Skyhawks. Pignato posted a score of 82 today for a three-round score of 255 (88-85-82) for a 38th place finish overall, while DeBoise carded an 83 for the second-straight day to complete a three-day score of 257 (91-83-83). Both joined Brodahl with 40s on the back nine, their first nine, today with DeBoise posting back-to-back birdies on the par-5 16th hole and par-3 17th, while adding five pars in her round. Pignato had five of her eight total pars today on her first nine holes, adding a birdie on the par-3 fifth hole as well.

Chattanooga finished off a wire-to-wire victory with a second-straight 296 team score today for a three-day score of 887 (295-296-296) to win the tournament by 21 shots over host Jacksonville State (312-296-300=908) with Illinois State (307-300-304=911) third. Chattanooga was led by the top two finishers on the leaderboard with Makenzie Cooper finishing off medalist honors with a three-day score of two-over-par 218 (72-73-73), three shots lower than her teammate Giulia Foresta at five-over-par 221 (76-75-70) after carding the lowest round in the field today.

  • Freshman Sydney Hidalgo rounded out Stonehill's scorers today with a round of 85 after back-to-back 91s over the first two rounds to complete a three-day score of 267 and finish 40th. She birdied the par-4 13th hole, which had her one-under for her round at the time, adding four of her seven total pars over the first nine holes and a 41 on the back.
  • Senior Hannah Pignato, competing as an individual this week, turned in a strong round of 88 today, posting a birdie on the par-4 13th, to finish with a three-round score of 293 (105-100-88), carving 12 shots off her second-round score and finishing 43rd overall.
  • Freshman Kenna Roman finished 41st overall with a three-day score of 274 (96-85-93), totaling eight pars today.
  • Sophomore Caitlin Anderson was the highest Skyhawk finisher among those competing as individuals this week in 42nd place with a 284 total (99-92-93).
  • Sophomore Cheyenne Couture carded a season-best 95 today and finished 44th at 306 (107-104-95).
  • Sophomore Cecilie Elie: 130-117-119=366 (46th)

Stonehill is off until Sunday, April 7, when it participates in the FDU Invitational at Crystal Spring Golf Club in Hamburg, New Jersey, for the first of two rounds. Stonehill will host a regular season tournament at its home course, Thorny Lea Golf Club in Brockton, Massachusetts, for the first time this spring with the Skyhawk Senior Showdown with Merrimack College and Bryant University on Thursday, April 11, at noon.
