DeBoise Leads Women's Golf on Day One of Quinnipiac Classic

Springfield, Massachusetts, sophomore tied for 38th after two rounds

WALLINGFORD, Conn. (October 9, 2023) – Sophomore Jaelyn DeBoise leads the way for the Stonehill College women's golf team after two rounds on day one of the Quinnipiac Classic, hosted on the 6,163-yard, par 72, layout at The Farms Country Club today.

DeBoise is tied for 38th in the field of 73 golfers when play was halted due to darkness with two golfers remaining on the course. She carded a first round 80 and then an 81 in the afternoon to finish the first day at 161 and leads the Stonehill lineup that includes four freshmen in support . She recorded seven birdies over her two rounds today, including a program-record five in her second round of the day. Three of those second-round birdies came on the back nine, including back-to-back birdies on the par-4 11th and par-5 12th holes. Stonehill's lineup played that two hole stretch at a combined five-under-par in the second round, with three of the five Skyhawks birdieing both holes.

Freshman Sydney Hidalgo posted Stonehill's best round of the day with a second round 79 after carding an 84 in the morning and is tied for 42nd overall at 163. She finished the day with three birdies, including both the 11th and 12th holes in her second round 79, finish the back nine with a 38.

Stonehill is ninth out of the 12 teams that completed both rounds on the day following up a morning score of 334 by trimming five shots off in the afternoon with a 329 for a total of 663 for the day. The Skyhawks lead University of Hartford by 14 shots and trail Bryant University by nine heading into Tuesday's third and final round.

Host Quinnipiac University leads the way at 599 (300-299), six shots better than second place Dartmouth College (301-304=605). Minh Doan Xuan Khue from Saint John's University and Merrimack College's Prakruthi Sastry share the individual lead with matching three-over-par scores of 147 – one stroke better than the Quinnipiac duo of Aimee Uchida and Leeyen Peralta atop a leaderboard in which 12 golfers are within four shots of the lead heading into the final round. Sastry carded the low round of the day with a two-under-par 70 in this afternoon's second round.

  • Freshman Helen Brodahl is tied for 50th at 169, following rounds of 84 and 85, respectively. She registered 19 pars for the day, including four-straight on the back nine in her second round to shoot 40 on the back.
  • Freshman Carol Pignato is the first golfer at Stonehill to birdie three-straight holes after following up birdies on the 11th and 12th, with a third on the par-three 13th hole on her way to a second-round 84, is tied for 53rd at 170 (86-84).
  • Freshman Kenna Roman finished the first day at 183 (89-94) and is 67th overall.
  • Senior Hannah Pignato is 70th overall at 195 (102-95) competing as an individual.
