First Years Lead Women's Golf on Day One of Bucknell Fall Invite

Roman leads four solid debuts with opening round 78, tied for 43rd after second round

LEWISBURG, Pa. (September 9, 2023) – Four Stonehill College first-years led the way for the Skyhawks through 36 holes on the first day of the Bucknell Fall Invitational, hosted by Bucknell University on the 5,901-yard, par-70 layout at Bucknell Golf Club today.

Freshman Kenna Roman led the way for Stonehill, carding a first round 78 in this morning's opening round that included an eagle two on the par-4 fifth hole. She shot a three-over-par 37 on the back nine as well and followed up her 78 in the morning with a round of 85 in the second round this afternoon, totaling six of the nine pars she recorded this afternoon on the front when she shot a 40. Roman is tied for 43rd place out of 61 individuals at the event with her two-round score of 163.

Boston University leads the team standings after two rounds at 589, two strokes lower than host Bucknell (591), who posted the lowest team score of the day in the morning's first round at 12-over-par 292, with Navy third (595). Boston University's Christy Chen leads the individual leaderboard at one-under-par 139, following up her two-under-par 68 in the first round with a one-over 71 this afternoon. She leads Bucknell's Lila Smith (77-68=145) by six strokes. Stonehill sits in 11th place after the first day at 658 (322-336) – just one stroke behind Niagara University in tenth and nine shots behind ninth place College of the Holy Cross.

  • Freshman Helen Brodahl follows Roman in 46th place after two solid opening rounds to her collegiate career of 81 and 83 (164) posting birdies on the third and 13th holes in the second round following a first round where she carded 11 pars.
  • Freshmen Sydney Hidalgo and Carol Pignato are tied for 49th overall with first day scores of 166. Hidalgo followed up her first round 81 with an 85 in the afternoon, while Pignato posted scores of 82 and 84, respectively, carding a first round birdie on the par-4 eighth hole in the first round and then on the par-3 tenth in the second. Hidalgo shot a three-over-par 38 in the second nine of her first round.
  • Sophomore Jaelyn DeBoise finished her Saturday tied for 52nd at 168 with identical rounds of 84 today.
  • Senior Hannah Pignato rounds out the Skyhawks competing this weekend and is tied for 57th at 174, posting rounds of 84 and 89.
