Skyhawks eighth after opening round with 357 team score

GLENCOE, Ala. (March 10, 2024) – Stonehill College opened play at the Chris Banister Intercollegiate presented by Grub Mart and hosted by Jacksonville State University on the 5,890-yard, par 72 layout at the Silver Lakes Course on the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail today.

Freshman Helen Brodahl led the way for Stonehill which posted a first-round team score of 357 to sit eighth in the team standings. Brodahl carded an 87 to lead the Skyhawks scorers who were all separated by just four strokes today, recording eight pars.

Chattanooga leads the team standings after a seven-over-par team score of 295 to lead the field by 12 strokes over second place Illinois State (307). Ali Schrock from Illinois State leads a pack of three Chattanooga golfers atop the medalist leaderboard after an opening round one-under-par 71. She leads Chattanooga's Makenzie Cooper (72) by one stroke on a leaderboard where the top six golfers are separated by just four strokes.

  • Freshman Carol Pignato carded the lone birdie by a Stonehill golfer today on the par-4 sixth hole and played the back nine in four-over-par 40 with five pars on her way to an 88 – one stroke behind Brodahl in 39th place.
  • Freshman Sydney Hidalgo and sophomore Jaelyn DeBoise are both tied for 40th after opening round scores of 91 to round out the Skyhawks scorers today. DeBoise recorded seven pars during her round.
  • Freshman Kenna Roman posted a round of 96, including six pars, and is in 42nd place.
  • Senior Hannah Pignato and sophomores Caitlin Anderson, Cheyenne Couture and Cecile Elie are all competing as individuals at the tournament.
    • Anderson is 43rd overall after a score of 99.
    • Pignato is 44th at 105.
    • Couture is 45th at 107.
    • Elie is 47th at 130.

The Chris Banister Intercollegiate, presented by Grub Mart, continues with second round play tomorrow at Silver Lakes at 8 a.m. Stonehill will host a regular season tournament at its home course, Thorny Lea Golf Club in Brockton, Massachusetts, for the first time this spring with the Skyhawk Senior Showdown with Merrimack College and Bryant University on Thursday, April 11, at noon.
