Brodahl Leads Women's Golf in Second Round at Chris Banister Intercollegiate

Portland, Oregon, freshman cards team-best 78 in second round as Skyhawks move up one spot in team standings

GLENCOE, Ala. (March 11, 2024) – Freshman Helen Brodahl dropped nine strokes off her first round score and carded a second round 78 to highlight a Stonehill College team that cut 20 shots off its team score on Monday and moved up one spot in the standings heading into Tuesday's final around at the Chris Banister Intercollegiate, presented by Grub Mart, and hosted by Jacksonville State University on the 5,890-yard, par 72 layout at the Silver Lakes Course on the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail today.

Brodahl started her second round strong, recording five-straight pars before a birdie on the par-4 sixth hole had her one under par for her round. She followed up a two-over-par 38 on the front with a four-over 40 on the back nine for her team-best round of 78. Brodahl moved up two spots on the leaderboard to 36th place overall heading into Tuesday's third and final round.

Sophomore Jaelyn DeBoise also sliced nine shots off her first-round score with an 83 today. She collected nine pars and shot four-over-par 40 on the front nine today and remained 40th on the leaderboard.

Chattanooga extended its lead atop the team standings with a 296-team score today for a two-day score of 591 to lead the way by 16 shots entering the final round. Illinois State is second (307-300=607), with host Jacksonville State University posting the only other team score under 300 today for third (312-296=608). Stonehill (357-331=688) moved past South Alabama (356-336=692) in the team standings by four strokes heading to Tuesday.

  • Eight of Stonehill's nine golfers competing this week improved their scores in the second round from Sunday's first round, with none shooting worse.
  • Freshmen Carol Pignato and Kenna Roman rounded out Stonehill's scorers on Monday with rounds of 85. Pignato trimmed three strokes off her first-round score today, posting five pars and nothing worse than bogey, and remains 39th overall. Roman cut 11 shots off her first-round score with seven pars and moved up to 41st on the leadership.
  • Freshman Sydney Hidalgo posted her second-straight 91 on Monday and is in 42nd place, carding six pars.
  • Sophomore Caitlin Anderson joined Brodahl with a birdie today, hers coming on the par-3 14th hole, finishing seven shots better than her first-round score with a 92 today to lead the Skyhawks competing as individuals this week.

The Chris Banister Intercollegiate, presented by Grub Mart, concludes with third round play tomorrow starting at 9 a.m. (EDT). Stonehill will host a regular season tournament at its home course, Thorny Lea Golf Club in Brockton, Massachusetts, for the first time this spring with the Skyhawk Senior Showdown with Merrimack College and Bryant University on Thursday, April 11, at noon.
