Black's First Place Finish Guides Men's Cross Country to Fourth At Shawn M. Nassaney Invitational

SMITHFIELD, R.I. (September 10, 2022)- The Stonehill College men's cross country team saw three top-20 finishes out of 100 runners at the Shawn M. Nassaney Invitational Saturday morning. Merrimack took home first place in the meet, followed by Bryant, Holy Cross, Stonehill, and Assumption to round out the top five.

Highlights

  • Colin Black highlighted the Skyhawks day when he just narrowly won the meet with a time of 15:47.40 whereas second place came in at 15:47.50. For the second straight meet, Black ended up as Stonehill's highest finisher. 
  • Connor Hughes was Stonehill's second top-20 runner when he crossed the finish line at 16:12.20 (13th place). Saturday's race marked the first time in Hughes' career that he has raced on a 5k course. 
  • Jace Hollenbach rounded out the purple and white's top-20 with a time of 16:18.30 (17th). Like Hughes, Hollenbach also competed on a 5k course for his first time Saturday.

Other Performances

  • Not far behind was Patrick Garratt with a 26th place finish at 16:32.40. Garrett also ran on a 5k course for his first time. Steven Galatis followed with a 47th place run with a time of 16:57.50. 
  • As the race went on, Thomas Forde saw a time of 17:18.10 for 65th place and wrapping up the Skyhawks runners was Jason McGettrick who made his collegiate debut Saturday. In his first cross country meet, the freshman came in 92nd place with a time of 17:49.40.
