#14 American International Pulls Past Men’s Soccer in Second Half, 4-0

EASTON, Mass. (October 16, 2021) - American International College, ranked No. 14 in the United Soccer Coaches Association Division II poll, scored three goals in the second half to break open a one goal game at the half to close out a 4-0 victory over Stonehill College in Northeast-10 Conference men's soccer action at Skyhawk Field this afternoon.

The Details

  • After facing some regionally ranked opponents this season, #14 AIC marks the first ranked squad Stonehill faced in 2021 and the first since falling in a nail biter, 1-0, to No. 4 Adelphi on Oct. 12, 2019.
  • Postgrad Samir Regragui finished with two goals for AIC, opening the scoring in the 33rd minute when he collected a loose ball and fired a low skipping shot that found the right side of the goal for his first goal of the season.
  • Stonehill had some chances to take the lead in the opening half and then equalize in the second, but was unable to break through.
  • American International would eventually break the game open with three goals over the closing half hour of the match.
  • Freshman Carl Larsson extended AIC's lead to a pair when he netted his third goal of the season in the 65th minute when he knocked in a loose ball after a corner kick.
  • Regragui completed his double in the 74th minute and then freshman Mathis Pilon St. Louis rounded out the scoring with 52-seconds to play with his team-leading sixth goal of the year
  • Stonehill junior goalkeeper Andrew Hammersley stood tall again in defeat, finishing with six saves in just over 84-minutes of play, before giving way to classmate Anthony Bellomo for the final 5:39. 
  • The six saves by Hammersley marked the eighth time this season that Hammersley has made five-plus saves in a single game.
