Third quarter penalty stroke the difference as Conte posts career-high 15 saves

LORETTO, Pa. (October 23, 2022) – Saint Francis (Pa.) University converted a penalty stroke midway through the third quarter and made it stand in notching a 1-0 victory over Stonehill College in Northeast Conference (NEC) field hockey action at DeGol Field today. 

Highlights

  • Stonehill sophomore Shannon Conte logged double-digit saves for the sixth-straight game and ninth time this season overall as she finished with a career-high 15 today.
  • Sophomore Eva Valentini provided the difference by converting a penalty stroke 7:58 into the second half, a goal that would clinch a spot in the upcoming NEC Tournament for Saint Francis.
  • Seniors Chloe South and Amber Bryan split the goalkeeping duties for the Red Flash, with each making one save.

How It Happened

  • Conte kept Saint Francis at bay through the first half, registering eight of her saves over the first 30-minutes, including five in the second quarter.
  • Saint Francis' goal came following a series of penalty corners less than four minutes after Bryan stopped a drive by Stonehill senior Andrea Caradonna off a Skyhawks corner.
  • Conte stopped two shots from open play by Valentini leading up to the whistle calling for a penalty stroke, where the Red Flash sophomore slotted her shot into the right side of the cage for her 12th goal of the season.
