Conte with another high-saving game with 13 saves

EASTON, Mass. (October 14, 2022) – Stonehill College Field Hockey hosted a match-up this afternoon against Rider University. The Skyhawks competed at W.B. Mason Stadium, playing a conference game, and played a tough game against the New Jersey team. Rider jumped out with an early lead in the first quarter, setting the tone for the rest of the match.

Highlights

  • Stonehill sophomore Shannon Conte played a tough 60-minute game defending the goal, with a total of 13 saves. 
  • Freshman Semra Said had two goals during today's game.
  • Senior Maeve Riehman scored the second goal of the game, unassisted.
  • Freshman Valeria Perales scored 2 goals and had 2 assists.
  • Sophomore Lyric Scott scored the last goal for the first period, setting the Broncos up with a 4-0 lead.

 

How It Happened

  • Rider scored four goals in the first quarter to grab a quick lead. Semra opened the scoring 0:44 into the game with a pass from Perales.
  • Riehman scored an unassisted goal at the 6:42 mark, giving the Broncos a 2-0 lead.
  • Just getting an assist, Perales scored a goal of her own with an assist from senior Sierra Giuliano at the 10:17 mark.
  • Scott scored the last goal of the first period for Rider at 12:26 with a pass from Giuliano, giving Rider a 4-0 lead.
  • Giuliano starts the second quarter off with a goal at 19:28, assisted by Perales.
  • Starting the third quarter, Perales scores herself another goal at the 34:07 mark, unassisted.
  • Following, Said scores herself another goal as well at the 38:29 mark, assisted by sophomore Abby Hartwell
  • The final goal was scored by Junior Kiera Guckavan, unassisted, at the 40:35 mark, leaving the Broncos to win 8-0.
  • Conte's 13 saves were one save shy of her career-high and season-best set in her first career start in the Skyhawks season-opener at Hofstra University on August 27.
