van Hamburg hat trick and DeHarbe pair power first place Seahawks

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. (October 9, 2022) – Wagner College broke open a one goal game at the half with a five-goal third quarter on its way to an 8-0 victory over Stonehill College to remain atop the Northeast Conference field hockey standings at Wagner Field Hockey Complex this afternoon.  

Highlights

  • Postgrad Laura van Hamburg scored three goals and classmate Agustina DeHarbe added a pair to lead Wagner to the victory and remain unbeaten in NEC play.
  • Sophomore Abigael McCue contributed a goal and assist for the Seahawks who got goals from classmate Lisolette Koop and senior Kira Mordvinov as well.
  • Postgrad Daisy Ruhle registered her second career shutout with two saves in the Wagner goal.
  • Sophomore Shannon Conte registered 12 saves in goal for Stonehill, marking her fourth double-digit save effort of the season.

How It Happened

  • Koop notched the lone goal of the opening half, breaking through for Wagner 4:37 into the second quarter with an unassisted tally for her third goal of the year.
  • Conte kept the Seahawks in check with three first half saves, but Wagner struck for three goals in a six-minute stretch as part of five goal outburst in the third quarter to take control.
  • van Hamburg's first goal of the game doubled Wagner's lead in the 34th minute and then DeHarbe potted the next two, her first coming just 55-seconds after the van Hamburg tally in the 35th minute, before completing her double in the 38th.
  • van Hamburg's second of the game extended the Wagner lead to five goals in the 40th minute, before Mordvinov's sixth goal of the season capped the five-goal third quarter for the Seahawks, assisted by McCue.
  • McCue added her first career goal 1:10 into the fourth quarter and then van Hamburg capped her hat trick with her fifth goal of the year in the 50th minute.
  • Conte made half of her save total in the fourth quarter, with six stops over that 15 minute stretch.

Stonehill (2-6, 1-2 NEC) is back in action on Tuesday, when it visits Colgate University at noon. The Skyhawks return to W.B. Mason Stadium on Friday to host Rider University for an NEC matchup at 3 p.m. Wagner (7-5, 3-0 NEC) hosts Sacred Heart University for an NEC matchup on Friday at 3 p.m.
