Conte matches career-high with 14 saves

HAMILTON, N.Y. (October 11, 2022) – Colgate College scored both goals in the opening quarter and made them stand the rest of the way in posting a 2-1 victory over Stonehill College in a non-conference field hockey matchup at Tyler's Field this afternoon. 

Highlights

  • Stonehill sophomore Shannon Conte played yet another impressive game defending the goal, matching her career-high with 14 saves.
  • Senior Madi Weber scored the lone goal for the Skyhawks in the comeback effort.
  • Junior Ella Murphy and freshman Allison Lemmon first quarter.

How It Happened

  • Colgate scored two goals in the first quarter to grab a quick lead. Murphy opened the scoring 4:43 into the game with an unassisted tally for her fifth goal of the season.
  • Lemmon doubled the Raiders lead on her first collegiate goal with just one second remaining in the first quarter off a rebound and pass by freshman Tyler Argilagos.
  • Conte kept Stonehill in the game with six of her 14 stops in the first quarter and then six more in the third.
  • Neither team would score until Weber pulled Stonehill back within a goal 5:20 into the fourth with her second goal of the season, assisted by senior captain Meghan Bean.

    Conte's 14 saves match her career and season-best set in her first career start in the Skyhawks season-opener at Hofstra University on August 27.

Stonehill (2-7, 1-2 NEC) returns to action at home against Rider University on Friday at 3 p.m. The Skyhawks then travel to University of Vermont for a non-conference game scheduled for Sunday, October 16 at noon. Colgate (3-11, 0-3 Patriot) hosts College of the Holy Cross on Friday at 5 p.m.
