Caradonna nets Skyhawks first goal of season, Conte posts 11 saves

MARYLAND HEIGHTS, Mo. (September 9, 2022) – Saint Louis University scored goals in the third and fourth quarters to overcome a halftime deficit and edge Stonehill College, 2-1, in a non-conference field hockey matchup at SportPort International this evening.

Highlights

  • Sophomore Josefina Perez scored with 1:25 to play in regulation to lift Saint Louis to the win as the Billikens used two second half goals to overcome a halftime deficit. Junior Brooke Mason also scored a goal for Saint Louis.
  • Senior Andrea Caradonna scored her second career goal to give Stonehill a first half lead, assisted by junior Claudia Crowe and sophomore Maddie House.
  • Postgrad Sasha Sander finished with six saves to preserve the win in goal for Saint Louis.
  • Sophomore Shannon Conte recorded double figure saves for the third time in as many games this fall for Stonehill, finishing with 11.

How It Happened

  • Stonehill netted its first goal of the season 1:47 into the second quarter as Caradonna powered in a shot off a penalty corner, with assists to Crowe and House.
  • Stonehill carried that lead into halftime, before Saint Louis struck 2:26 into the third on Mason's first goal of the year off a pass from junior Jenna Klaers.
  • The game looked like it might be headed to overtime, but Perez's first goal of the year with just 1:25 to play off a pass from freshman Abby Vidas.

Stonehill (0-3, 0-0 NEC) is right back in action at SportPort International in Maryland Heights, on Sunday against Lindenwood University at 11 a.m. (EDT). The Skyhawks home opener is scheduled for Friday, October 7, against former Northeast-10 Conference rival Merrimack College, in a Northeast Conference matchup at W.B. Mason Stadium at 3 p.m. Saint Louis (1-4, 0-0 A-10) faces Ball State University on Sunday at 1 p.m.
