#19 Stonehill Places Eighth at Lehigh-Brooks-Paul Short Run

Alves leads Skyhawks in Brown Race with 40th place finish overall

BETHLEHEM, Pa. (October 1, 2010) – Stonehill College, ranked 19th in this week's U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association Division II national poll and first in the East Region, placed eighth out of 41 schools that competed in the "Brown Race" of the 2010 Lehigh-Brooks-Paul Short Run, hosted by Lehigh University today.

Stonehill finished with 287 points in the race, which was won by Rutgers University with 118 points. The Skyhawks finished tied with Kutztown University, just one behind the top Division II program at the event, University of Tampa, in seventh with 278 points. Millersville University sophomore Elicia Anderson won the race by completing the six-kilometer course in 21:03.

Junior captain Jill Alves (Whitman, Mass./Whitman-Hanson Regional) led the way for Stonehill by placing 40th out of 387 participants overall with her time of 22:55. Sophomore Lynley Joynt (Guilderland, N.Y./Guilderland) was 52nd overall in 23:08, followed closely by junior Kristen Mahoney (Weymouth, Mass./Weymouth) in 58th with her time of 23:09.

Stonehill is back in action next Saturday when it opens its championship season at the New England Championships at Franklin Park in Dorchester, Mass., at 12:45 p.m.
