#16 Stonehill Runners-Up at Quinnipiac Invitational

Mahoney leads Skyhawks with seventh-place finish

HAMDEN, Conn. (September 18, 2010) – Stonehill College, ranked 16th in the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association Division II national poll and first in the East Region, turned in a second place finish at the Quinnipiac University Invitational today.

Quinnipiac swept the top six spots to claim a minimum team score of 15 points, with its top six all completing the five-kilometer course within a span of 54-seconds. Sophomore Rebecca White led the Bobcats with her winning time of 18:13. She was followed by freshman triplets Amanda, Brianna and Christina Faust in second (18:41), third (18:53) and fourth (19:03), respectively.

Junior Kristen Mahoney (Weymouth, Mass./Weymouth) led Stonehill (53 points) with a seventh-place finish overall with her time of 19:08. Sophomore Lynley Joynt (Guilderland, N.Y./Guilderland) finished tenth in 19:13, while classmate Caroline McBride (North Reading, Mass./North Reading) placed 13th in 19:24. Junior Jill Alves (Whitman, Mass./Whitman-Hanson) was 15th in 19:26, while sophomore Stephanie Wilson (Wayzata, Minn./Hopkins) finished 16th in 19:34.

Stonehill is off until Friday, October 1, when it participates in the 37th annual Lehigh Paul Short Run, in Bethlehem, Pa., at 10 a.m.
