#22 Stonehill Takes Fourth at USI Pre-National Invitational

Alves leads Skyhawks with 15th place finish in nine team event

EVANSVILLE, Ind. (September 26, 2009) - The Stonehill College women's cross country team, ranked 22nd in this week's U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association Division II poll, placed fourth for the third-straight week while competing at the University of Southern Indiana Pre-National Invitational. The meet was run on the course which will host the NCAA Division II men's and women's cross country championships in November.

Stonehill posted a 95 team score with five runners finishing in the top 25. The University of Tampa, ranked 13th nationally, won the nine team event with a score of 29, while No. 11 University of Southern Indiana was second (56) and #23 Ferris State University third (82). The Skyhawks were fourth of the nine Division II programs at the event, while #21 Harding University rounded out the top five. Ferris State junior Tina Muir won the individual title with a time of 21:48.22 over the 6K course.

Sophomore Jill Alves (Whitman, Mass./Whitman-Hanson) led Stonehill with a 15th-place finish (out of 75 runners) as she completed course in 23:23.92. Freshman Lynley Joynt (Guilderland, N.Y./Guilderland) was next for Stonehill with a time of 23:32.88 for 18th overall, and within three seconds of her was freshman Kristen Veit (Easthampton, Mass./Holyoke Catholic) for 19th place in 23:35. Freshman Jessica Jarrard (Shrewsbury, Mass./Hudson Catholic) took 21st with a time of 23:50, two seconds ahead of junior Lindsay Booth (Franklin, Mass./Franklin) with a personal-best time of 23:52 for 22nd place and round out the Skyhawks scoring runners.

Stonehill is back in action Saturday, October 10, when it participates in the New England Championships, at Franklin Park, in Dorchester, Mass.
