Wirth Named NE-10 Setter of the Week

Mesa, Ariz., native honored for second time this season

EASTON, Mass. (September 28, 2009) - Stonehill College junior Andrea Wirth (Mesa, Ariz./St. Mary's) has been named the Northeast-10 Conference Setter of the Week. The announcement was made by the Conference office this afternoon.

Wirth, who earns Setter of the Week honors for the second time this season (fifth career), averaged 10.56 assists, 3.00 digs, 0.22 service aces and 0.22 blocks per set as Stonehill opened its Northeast-10 schedule with a pair of wins. She led the Skyhawks to a five-set win at Merrimack College on Wednesday with a season-high 58 assists (one shy of her career-best) to go with 15 digs, a kill and block assist. Wirth totaled 37 assists, 12 digs, three kills, two service aces and a block assist in Saturday's four-set win over Saint Anselm College.

Wirth ranks fourth among Northeast-10 leaders with 8.88 assists per set, while also averaging 2.50 digs, 0.20 service aces and 0.17 blocks through 11 matches this season. She was also named NE-10 Setter of the Week on September 8 after leading Stonehill to a pair of opening weekend wins.

Over her three-year career at Stonehill, Wirth has appeared in 72 matches and is averaging 9.14 assists, 2.41 digs, 0.29 service aces and 0.17 blocks per set. Earlier this season, she surpassed 2,000 career assists and currently stands with 2,302 to go with 607 career digs.

Stonehill (7-4, 2-0 NE-10) is back in action tomorrow night for a key Northeast-10 match at Merkert Gymnasium with preseason Conference favorites Bentley University at 7 p.m. The match will be webcast live via www.stonehillskyhawks.tv on a pay-per-view basis ($4.95). The Skyhawks also host American International College for a Conference clash on Thursday at 7 p.m.
