Senior All-American collects five awards, the second highest total in NCAA DII

EASTON, Mass. (March 6, 2015) – Ten members of the Stonehill College women's track & field team have earned a combined 20 All-East Region honors from the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA), the organization announced this week. The awards recognize each of the region's top five performers in individual events and top three teams in relay events.

Senior All-American Maria Curit (Biddeford, Maine/Biddeford) led the way for Stonehill with her five All-Region accolades, the second highest total for any individual in NCAA Division II. Curit was recognized for both track (400-meter dash, 800-meter run) and field (long jump) events in addition to the 4000-meter distance medley relay and 4x400-meter relay.

Curit earned All-Region status in the 400-meter dash with her program record and NCAA Championship provisional qualifying time of 55.24 seconds at the Boston University John Thomas Terrier Invitational on January 30th. Her All-Region performance for the 800-meter run came last weekend at the New England Championships, when the senior turned in a program record time of 2:08.25, which ranks second in Division II. Curit's final individual All-Region effort was a mark of 19 feet, 3.5 inches in the long jump, also a program record, at the Northeast-10 Conference Championships on February 21st.

Curit has now been recognized with 20 All-Region awards for both indoor and outdoor track & field throughout the course of her career. She collected six total honors for the indoor and outdoor seasons as a junior last year, after earning five as a freshman and four as a sophomore. Curit has enjoyed the most success in the 400-meter dash and the long jump, earning All-Region honors for both events in every indoor/outdoor season during her career with the exception of the 2012-13 indoor campaign, when she was recognized for her efforts with the 4x400-meter and distance medley relays.

Sophomores Nicole Borofski (Plymouth, Massachusetts/Plymouth North) and Aisha McAdams (North Kingstown, Rhode Island/North Kingstown) checked in with the second highest All-Region total for Stonehill, picking up three awards each. The duo earned the honors in the 3000-meter and 1-mile runs, as well as with the distance medley relay.

Borofski posted her season best and program record time of 9:44.54 in the 3000-meter run at the New England Championships, while McAdams clocked in at 10:02.39 in the same event at the NE-10 Championships. In the 1-mile run, Borofski ranks 19th nationally with her time of 4:54.66 at the NE-10 Championships and McAdams is 39th with a time of 4:59.45 at the Boston University Valentine Invitational on February 13th. Borofski, who earned All-Region honors for the first time as a freshman last spring in the 3000-meter steeplechase, is now up to four career awards for track & field to go with two for cross country. McAdams collects her first honor for track & field after posting her first All-Region effort for cross country in the fall.

Juniors Jordan Gray (Warwick, Rhode Island/Toll Gate) and Jeana Esernio (Stony Brook, New York/Ward Melville) posted two All-Region performances each. Esernio is being recognized for her efforts in the 60-meter hurdles, and Gray with the distance medley relay, while both were a part of Stonehill's 4x400-meter relay.

Esernio posted her season-best and program record time of 8.95 seconds in the 60-meter hurdles at the NE-10 Championships, and she has now collected four career All-Region honors including her performance in the 100-meter hurdles last spring and with the 4x400-meter relay during the 2012-13 indoor season. Gray turned in two All-Region efforts in the 400-meter dash and distance medley relay last winter, to go with an award for the 4x400-meter relay as a freshman, giving her five in her career.

Seniors Sarah Wilson (West Suffield, Connecticut/Suffield) and Brianna Venturo (Taunton, Massachusetts/Coyle & Cassidy), juniors Leanne Kent (North Andover, Massachusetts/Central Catholic) and Trisha Pierson (East Hanover, New Jersey/Hanover Park), and freshman Alison Tobin (Hudson, Massachusetts/Hudson) round out Stonehill's ten All-East Region performers for the 2014-15 indoor season, as they earned one award each.

Wilson posted her fifth career All-Region effort in the 800-meter run, and eighth overall, last weekend at the New England Championships with a time of 2:13.05. She has also been recognized twice with the distance medley relay and once in the 1500-meter run. Venturo, who earned All-Region status in the 5000-meter run with her season-best time of 18:19.18 at the Terrier Invitational, also earned All-Region honors last winter in the 1-mile run and with the cross country team as a sophomore in 2012.

Pierson, a two-time All-Region honoree for outdoor track & field in the discus throw, earns her first career indoor award in the shot put. The junior registered a program record distance of 41 feet, 3.25 inches at the season-opening UMass Boston Indoor Open on December 6th.

Earning the first All-East Region honors of their career are Kent with the 4x400 meter relay and Tobin in the pole vault. Tobin cleared a height of ten feet on two occasions, first on January 17th at the Tufts University Invitational and then again on February 13th at the Valentine Invitational.

The 4x400-meter relay of Kent, Curit, Esernio, and Gray set a program record and earned All-New England honors last weekend at the New England Championships with a time of 3:47.72 (13th in NCAA DII), while the distance medley relay of McAdams, Gray, Curit, and Borofski posted their All-Region effort with a mark of 11:43.44 (9th in NCAA DII) at the Terrier Invitational.

Stonehill will cap its indoor season on March 13-14 when its qualified individuals will compete at the NCAA DII Track & Field Championships, held at the CrossPlex Complex in Birmingham, Alabama.
