Curit Collects Fifth Track Rookie Of The Week Award

Curit posted three finishes in the top-ten at the New England Championships

EASTON, Mass. (May 14, 2012) – Stonehill College freshman Maria Curit (Biddeford, Maine/Biddeford) has been named the Northeast-10 Conference (NE-10) Track Rookie of the Week, it was announced earlier today.

Curit earned All-New England honors in the 400-meter run with a time 57.24-seconds on Sunday at the New England Championships. She also helped Stonehill to a ninth place finish in the 4x800-meter relay along with teammates Jill Alves (Whitman, Mass./Whitman-Hanson), Sarah Wilson (West Suffield, Conn./Suffield) and Christen Carrier (Manchester, N.H./Manchester Central) in 9:29.42.

In the long jump, Curit placed tenth overall with a leap of 17-feet and 2.25-inches for the best mark of any NCAA Division II female student-athlete at the New England Championships on Saturday.

All-New England honors are awarded to those who finish in the top-eight in a given event at the New England Championships which is comprised of NCAA Division I, II and III student-athletes.

Counting the indoor season, Curit has earned 15 weekly awards from the NE-10. Curit earned one Track Athlete of the Week award (2/13), three Track Rookie of the Week honors (12/6/11, 1/23 and 2/13) and three Field Rookie of the Week awards (1/23, 2/20, 2/28) during the indoor campaign. So far this season, Curit has earned one Track Athlete of the Week award (4/9), five Track Rookie of the Week selections (4/3, 4/9, 4/16, 4/23, 5/14) and two Field Rookie of the Week honors (4/9, 4/16).

Stonehill, ranked fourth in the most recent USTFCCCA Division II East Regional rankings, will now await official word on who will represent the College at the NCAA Division II Outdoor Track & Field Championships which will be announced later this week. The NCAA Championships are hosted by CSU-Pueblo at the Eddie DeRose ThunderBowl in Pueblo, Colorado beginning on Thursday, May 24 through Saturday, May 26.
