King's Record Setting Day Highlights Final Day At NEICAAA Indoor Championships

BOSTON, Mass. (February 3, 2023)- The Stonehill College men's indoor track and field team wrapped up their final day at the New England Intercollegiate Amateur Athletic Association Indoor Track and Field Championship Friday. The squad ended up finishing in 15th place with 18 points which was better than another notable Division I program, Northeastern who came in 18th.

The University of Rhode Island ended up winning the meet with a score of 199 points followed by Maine (56 points), Southern Connecticut State (54.33 points), Central Connecticut (51 points), and finally Bryant (48 points) to round out the top-five.

Highlights

  • Solomon King had yet another strong performance on the second day of the NEICAAA's as the junior broke the school's 200-meter dash record that had previously been held for the last 16 years by Vinnie Williams'07. King's record-breaking time of 21.43 seconds was good for second place after he just narrowly missed first place by .01 seconds. King's time not only is the top at Stonehill but is also the fastest time in the Northeast Conference so far this season. To qualify for the 200-meter, King notched a fourth-place finish in the preliminaries with a time of 21.80 seconds. 
  • King also partook in the 60-meter dash race and earned a spot in the finals after he came in fourth place at 7.00 seconds in the preliminaries. In the finals, King crossed the finish line in fourth with a time of 6.96 seconds. 
  • In the mile, Connor Hughes posted a top-10 finish (10th) with a time of 4:20.46 which was .01 off his personal-best.

Other Performances

  • Stonehill saw two runners grab spots in the top-15 in the 3,000-meter race led by Reilly Johnston's 11th-place finish at 8:41.44. Johnston's time is a career-best and is the 11th fastest time in the NEC. Not far behind him in 14th place was Patrick Garratt with a new personal record of 8:48.90. Garratt's time is also a top time in the NEC as his mark is the 18th fastest.
  • Parker Hagen saw action in the triple jump and posted a 17th-place finish with a leap of 12.67 meters (41' 7").
  • Despite not qualifying for the 200-meter dash final, Shea Drugan just missed out with a ninth-place finish as he set a new career-best with a time of 22.08 seconds. His mark is a top-10 fastest time in the NEC (seventh).
