Stonehill Posts Solid Showing At UMass Flagship Invitational

BOSTON, Mass. (January 15, 2023)- The Stonehill College men's indoor track and field team resumed their indoor season after the holiday break Sunday afternoon at the UMass Flagship Invitational at The Track at New Balance.

Highlights

  • Solomon King posted two top-15 finishes on the day in both the 200-meter dash and 400-meter dash. In the 200, King crossed the finish line at 22.40 seconds for 12th place. Meanwhile, in the 400-meter, King also came in 12th place with a time of 51.08 seconds. His time is now one of the top 10 in the Northeast Conference (10th). 
  • Aidan Byrne had the highest overall finish on the day with a fourth-place mark in the 5,000m when he finished in 15:42.56. Byrne's time is also ranked within the top 10 of the NEC as he posted the ninth fastest time in the conference. 
  • In field events, Jacob Pacheco was yet another top-15 finisher for the Skyhawks as the junior had a toss of 4.15 meters (13' 7.25") good for 10th place. Pacheco's finish is ranked within the top 10 of the NEC (seventh).
  • Parker Hagen also notched a top-15 finish in his respective event as the sophomore came in 11th in the triple jump with a leap of 12.51 meters (41' 0.5"). Hagen's jump also ended up being a top-10 leap in the NEC (ninth). 

Other Performances

  • The 3,000-meter saw all four Skyhawks who ran in the event post top 30 finishes led by Jace Hollenbach's 22nd place mark at 8:58.57. Not far behind was Andrew Janus in 25th with a time of 9:14.37 and in 27th was Mack Eon who in his first-ever 3000-meter run, came in 27th at 9.19.61. Finally, Nicholas Cozzolino in his collegiate indoor track debut, the freshman crossed the finish line at 9:22.35 for a 29th place finish.
  • Along with King in the 200-meter dash, Shea Drugan was Stonehill's other top-15 finisher with a time of 22.46 seconds as the sophomore came in 15th place. 
  • In the 400-meter dash led by King's 12th place finish, the squad saw two other runners finish within the top 30 which included a 22nd place finish by Andrew Morin (52.99) seconds and Casey Ivester in 27th place (56.73).
  • Stonehill only had one runner in the one mile and that was Connor Hughes who ended up with a top 25 finish (25th) when he crossed the line at 4:35.12.

Stonehill will have some time off before returning to action next Saturday, January 21 in the URI Invitational.
