Skyhawks Compete In URI Invitational

KINGSTON, R.I. (January 21, 2023)- The Stonehill College men's track and field team continued their road trip when the squad traveled to the University of Rhode Island for the URI Invitational Saturday.

Highlights

  • After Solomon King qualified for the 60-meter finals with a time of 7.06 seconds in the preliminaries, King crossed the finish line in sixth place with a time of 7.00 seconds. 
  • Parker Hagen posted two top-10 finishes in his respective field events, triple jump and long jump. First, in the triple jump, Hagen had a leap of 12.88 meters (42' 3.25") for a ninth-place finish. Hagen's mark in the triple jump is one of the top-10 best in the Northeast Conference (10th). In the long jump, Hagen came in 10th place with a jump of 6.14 meters (20' 1.75"). 
  • Stonehill also saw the relay team of Shea Drugan, King, John Paulhamus, and Ryan Lavery notch a top-five finish (fourth) with a time of 3:33.49. 
  • In the high jump, the Skyhawks posted two top-10 finishers in King and Jacob Pacheco. King grabbed fifth place at 1.91 meters (6' 3.25") and not far behind was Pacheco in seventh at 1.86 meters (6' 1.25"). Pacheco's mark is ranked within the top 10 of the NEC (sixth).

Other Performances

  • In the 400-meter, Andrew Morin and Casey Ivester both posted top-20 finishes for Stonehill. Morin ended up with a 15th place finish with a time of 54.16 seconds and a few spots later in 18th was Ivester at 56.21.
  • Mack Eon and Andrew Janus represented the Skyhawks in the mile and each posted top-20 finishes. Eon led the way with a 16th-place finish when he crossed the line at 4:38.95 and two spots behind was Janus (18th) with a time of 4:41.88.
  • Jason McGettrick was the lone runner for the Purple and White in the 3,000-meter and in his first-time ever running in the event, he notched a top-20 finish (16th) at 9:49.11.
  • In field events, Stonehill had four representatives in the shot put and each had finished within the top-25. Jonathan Scampoli led the way in 16th (12.78 meters, 41' 11.25"), followed by Tyler Thomas in 18th (12.31 meters 40' 4.75), Eli Grover in 20th (11.79 meters, 38' 6.25"), and finally Michael Gozzo in 21st (11.74 meters 38' 6.25").
  • Scampoli also had another top-20 finish in the weighted throw event with a toss of 12.08 meters (39' 7.75").
