Saint Rose Edges Men’s Soccer, 1-0

 Zielinski tallies career-high seven saves

EASTON, Mass. (September 30, 2017) – The Stonehill College men's soccer team fell to the College of Saint Rose, 1-0, Saturday afternoon on Skyhawk Field in Northeast-10 Conference play.

Stonehill's (4-6-1, 1-5-0 NE10) freshman goalkeeper Jeremy Zielinski (Sunnyvale, California/Homestead) tallied a career-high seven saves, while only allowing one goal.

Saint Rose (4-5-0, 4-2-0 NE10) saw Vince Matozzo record the lone goal of the game with an assist from Oskar Aastroem, while goalkeeper Gianni Carillo recorded five saves in the afternoon.

Both teams started off the game by putting pressure on each other, as Stonehill and Saint Rose each tallied a shot in the first 15 minutes of play. The Skyhawks then had three chances with free kicks, as the Golden Knights tallied three-straight fouls. Stonehill also recorded three shots and one corner kick in the 25th minute of the game.

Saint Rose was able to capitalize 10 minutes later, in the 35th minute of the game, as Wari Isaac was blocked by a defender and Matozzo was able to find the back of the net after a pass from Aastroem at 34:54 in the first half, for a 1-0 advantage. Stonehill closed out the first frame with another corner kick and a header wide by Patrick Doherty (West Milford, New Jersey/Saint Joseph Regional).  

The second half also included back-and-forth play as both teams racked up the fouls combining for 18-15 fouls in favor of the Skyhawks. Saint Rose outshot Stonehill 10-6 in the second half, totaling a 15-13 shot advantage by the conclusion of the game.

Stonehill returns to play on Saturday, October 7 as the team travels to Syracuse, New York for a NE10 matchup against Le Moyne College with a start time of noon.
