Branco tallied seven of the eight shots on goal
SYRACUSE, N.Y. (October 7, 2017) – The Stonehill College men's soccer team dropped a 1-0 Northeast-10 Conference match-up to Le Moyne College on Saturday afternoon on Ted Grant Field.
For Stonehill (4-7-1, 1-6-0 NE10) freshman goalkeeper Jeremy Zielinski (Sunnyvale, California/Homestead) recorded eight saves in the loss, while senior Adam Branco (Naugatuck, Connecticut/Naugatuck) recorded seven shots on goal.
Le Moyne's (8-2-1, 4-2-1 NE10) Marek Weber tallied the lone goal of the game with assists from Adam Resetarits and Salar Faryar. Goalkeeper Ben Beaury saved eight of Stonehill's shots on goal.
Stonehill opened up the game with a shot by Justin Brehm (Latham, New York/Shaker) that sailed high of the net in the ninth minute of the game. The Dolphins tallied two shots, while the Skyhawks recorded two more halfway through the first half. The later part of the half was very active as Le Moyne out shot the Stonehill 4-2, for an overall shot advantage of 6-5.
The Dolphins were extremely active for six minutes, as they controlled the ball and recorded two corner kicks and five shots. Stonehill responded with a breakaway by Branco in the 66th minute, but was stopped by the keeper.
Once again, Le Moyne got off three shots back-to-back-back in the 71st, 72nd, and 74th minute from Weber, but was stopped short by Zielinski for three-straight saves.
With less than five minutes left in the game, Le Moyne got off a header by Faryar and continued pressing the Skyhawks in their defensive third. The Dolphins' Resetarits sent a cross from the right sideline to Salar for a one-touch to Weber in front of the net to the back left post for a 1-0 advantage in the 86th minute of the game.
Neither team was able to get another shot off in the remaining minutes, as Le Moyne outshot Stonehill 18-15.
Stonehill is back in action on Tuesday, October 10, as they travel to Bentley University for a 3:30 p.m. game.
