EASTON, Mass. (April 6, 2023)- Three members of the Stonehill College equestrian team have qualified for the Intercollegiate Horse Show Association (IHSA) Zone 1 Championship, which will take place on Friday, April 7 at Holly Hill Farm in Hanover, Mass. hosted by Mt. Holyoke College. 

This is the fourth-straight year that equestrian has sent multiple riders to Zone 1 Championships to compete. It also marks the first-ever appearance for Madeline Ahern, Grace Faddoul, and Sarah Herring.

At the Zone 1 Regionals, Ahern earned her spot in the regionals when she took second place in the open division's over fences event. She also took fourth in the open division's flat event but with her strong performances in both open division events, Ahern came in second place for the Cacchoine Rider category for the points she earned in the open division's events. Overall on the year, Ahern dominated in the over fences event for the open division with her five top-five finishes in the event which included a first-place mark at their spring home show on March 19.

Herring, grabbed her spot in the regionals after her second place finish in the intermediate division's flat event at the Zone 1 Regionals. Herring also earned third place in the over fences event also part of the intermediate division. Herring has had a solid year herself when competing in the intermediate division's flat event as she has posted top five finishes in each show she competed in which is highlighted by her first place finish at the Endicott College show (Nov. 5).

Finally, Faddoul earned a spot in the regionals when she took home first in both the limit division's over fences and flat events. Faddoul has also had a great year for the Skyhawks as the junior finished in first place in each show she had competed in during the regular season.

The top two ribbon winners at the Zone 1 Championships from each of the events and the top two teams overall will advance to the IHSA National Championships which will take place from Thursday, May 4- Saturday, May 6 at Alltech Arena in Lexington, Ky.
