Equestrian Caps Off Regular Season With First Place Finish

WALPOLE, Mass. (March 19, 2023)- The Stonehill College equestrian team completed their regular season slate of shows at their home show along with Boston University as the Skyhawks took home first place with an overall 44 points Sunday. At today's show, the Skyhawks saw two riders qualify for Intercollegiate Horse Show Association Regionals (IHSA) Regionals held next month (April 1). In order to qualify for postseason shows, regional qualifiers will need 36 points and open division riders will need 28.

Highlights

Haley Whittaker highlighted the day for the squad as the senior qualified for regionals in the limit flat division as she notched two first place finishes on the day. In the over fences and flat events for the limit division, the senior rider claimed the top spot for a total of 39 points. With her 39 points on the day, Whittaker qualified for regionals for the second straight year after she had qualified for the show last year but in the novice flat division.
Madeline Ahern was Stonehill's other rider who qualified for the postseason on Sunday as the sophomore notched a first place finish in the open division's flat event. She also claimed second in the open division's over fences event as well to cap off her strong day. With her two top-three finishes, Ahern earned the necessary 28 points to qualify.
The Skyhawks also saw two others claim first place finishes in Grace Faddoul and Rosalie Martin. Faddoul took home the top spot for the flat event in the intermediate division whereas Martin claimed first in the novice division.

Other Performances

Kelly Morrissey was one of Stonehill's other top-three finishers on the day as the junior claimed third in the walk trot division.
Ariel Goharzadeh rounded out the riders on the day with a fourth place mark in the intermediate division's over fences event.

Stonehill starts postseason action next Saturday, March 26 at the IHSA Zone 1, Region 4 Championships at a time to be determined later.
