Equestrian Shines At Boston University/Tufts Show; Team Named Reserve High Point Champions

HANOVER, MASS. (October 15, 2022)- The Stonehill College equestrian team kicked off their 2022-23 campaign at the Boston University/Tufts University show and were named Reserve High Point Champions thanks to multiple top-three performances in respective events on the day.

Highlights

  • Freshman, Madeline Ahern, had a strong debut for Stonehill today as she took home first place in open fences and third in the open flat event. Ahern is the first freshman to record a first-place finish in their event since Ariel Goharzadeh did so three years ago in limit flat also at the Boston University show.
  • Grace Faddoul had Stonehill's other first-place finish when she took home the top prize in the limit flat event.
  • Riley Young had a strong day that featured a second-place mark in novice.
  • Goharzadeh notched two top-five finishes on the day as she took home second in intermediate fences, and fourth in the intermediate flat event.

Other Results

  • Sarah Herring also collected two top-five finishes herself. First, she ended up in third place in the intermediate flat event, and then fifth during intermediate fences.
  • Last year's Intercollegiate Horse Show Association (IHSA) novice flat reserve champion, Haley Whittaker, competed in both the limit flat and lit fences events where she saw third and fifth place finishes respectively.
  • Lindsey Simmons came in fourth for the limit over fences event and rounding out the riders on the day for the Skyhawks, junior Kaitlyn Gilson also came in fourth in introductory.
