Boston College Sweeps Volleyball in Three Sets as Skyhawks End 10-Game Road Trip

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. (September 17, 2023) - Stonehill volleyball came up short at Boston College Sunday afternoon, falling in three sets (14-25, 14-25, 16-25) at the Connell Recreation Center.

Senior Lauren McCloskey led Stonehill with six kills and a 29.4% hit percentage and led the Skyhawks with three block assists. Freshman Lauren MacKellar had four kills in the match, one assist, and one block assist. Freshmen Georgia Murphy and Sarah Frager led the team with five digs each. Sophomore Delaney Mihelich paced the Skyhawks, assisting on seven points for Stonehill. Sophomore Isabella Arcidiacono had four assists in the match, a season-high for the setter.

SET 1 | Boston College scored the first four points of the match, but the Skyhawks responded to cut the Eagles' lead in half early on as they were down 8-6. Boston College would improve their lead to six points (14-8) and then continue to outpace Stonehill to take a 21-13 advantage into the late stages of the first set. Four of the next five points went to the Eagles as they won the first set 25-14.

SET 2 | The teams traded scores for the first six points (3-3) but four straight points from BC gave them a 7-3 lead. The Skyhawks trimmed the deficit to two (8-6), but the Eagles scored five consecutive points and 16 of the next 21 as they led 24-11. Stonehill would score three straight, but BC scored their 25th point to win the second set 25-14.

SET 3 | The third set started very similarly to the second, as the teams were tied 3-3 before BC grabbed an 8-6 lead. A 7-1 run from the Eagles gave them a 15-7 lead. BC didn't let up on the lead as they pushed their advantage to 23-13. They'd close out the set and the match with a 25-16 victory.
