BELCHERTOWN, Mass. (April 22, 2021) – Under cold, windy and sometimes snowy conditions, the Stonehill College women's golf program made history with its first runner-up team finish over 36 holes at the 2021 Northeast-10 Conference Women's Golf Championship, hosted by American International College, at the 5,828-yard, par-71 layout at Cold Spring Country Club today.

Stonehill, picked fourth by the NE10's six head coaches in the pre-championship poll, turned in a program-record second place finish with a 36-hole score of 713 (357-356), finishing behind only three-time and back-to-back champions Franklin Pierce University (355-341=696). The Skyhawks trailed the Ravens by just two strokes after the first round (355 to 357), led by sophomores Julia Dapron, the first round leader, and Emily Kase who sat third after the morning's first round, with rounds of 83 and 85, respectively. The duo earned NE10 All-Championship Team honors for their efforts – the first two in program history to earn the recognition.

Dapron followed up her season-low 83 in the morning first round with an 87 in the afternoon's second round, finishing her day with an eagle on the par-five fourth hole, to cap a third top ten finish in as many tournaments this spring. She finished behind just Franklin Pierce's Zoey Yamamoto, who earned individual medalist honors with a second round 80 after shooting an 87 in the morning. Dapron's eagle was the only one of the day by the field and she finished tied with Yamamoto with her three birdies over the two rounds under tough scoring conditions. She also finished second to Yamamoto on par-four scoring (4.57) and her 13 pars on the day were tied for second in the field.

Kase followed up her morning season-low round of 85 with a 91 in the second round to finish tied for fourth with a score of 176. She finished the day tied for third in the field on par three scoring (3.75) and par four scoring (4.64), totaling 13 pars (T-2nd) and adding a birdie on the par-4 14th hole in the second round.

Stonehill (357-356=713) finished 20-strokes in front of third place Assumption University (381-352=733), while The College of Saint Rose (375-359=734) was fourth, Adelphi University (377-362=739) took fifth and Le Moyne College (379-382=761) was sixth.

What They Said:

Stonehill head coach Nick Crovetti

"This was a great performance in just our fourth NE10 Championship, the third with a full team. I am very proud of the fortitude the team demonstrated, competing in extremely tough conditions. We executed a lot of quality golf shots today. The team deserves all the credit for their runner-up finish. Every member of the team makes us who we are. We had contributions from a freshman, Hannah Pignato, who has been consistent all spring, and a strong group of upperclassmen, who lead this team. Julia Dapron played very solid golf.  Emily Kase had a fantastic first 18-holes. Emma Beaulieu and Sloane Van Zanen hung tough. They are a great group of young women who carry themselves well on and off the course. I think Stonehill can and will capture the championship in the very near future."

Sophomore Julia Dapron

"I'm really proud of the day. Overall, we did really well and persevered through the bad weather. Coach said we were really close to Franklin Pierce after the first 18 holes, but we didn't know the scores and I didn't know I was in the lead, but my mindset was to stay the same on the second 18 as the first because I was playing really well. It was a tough day with the weather, snow and cold and windy, but overall, as a team we played really well, considering we had never played the course before today.

"As for myself, I played really well on the first 18. While I had a little harder of a time on the second 18, I was able to eagle the last hole, which helped to move me back up. I think being from Vermont helped and being from New England helps, but it was still really cold. I think people from other areas who are used to being able to hit the ball high really struggled today. So, learning how to keep the ball low definitely helped us."
