Dapron posts top ten finish to lead Skyhawks at 36-hole event

GUILDERLAND, N.Y. (April 14, 2021) - The Stonehill College women's golf team opened its spring season with a fourth-place finish at the Saint Rose Invitational, hosted by The College of Saint Rose, on the 5,570-yard, par 72, layout at Pinehaven Country Club today.

Sophomore Julia Dapron led the way for Stonehill as the only Skyhawk with both rounds in the 80s to finish seventh in the field of 33 competitors. She posted rounds of 88 and 87 on the day, carding two birdies in the first round, and another in the afternoon, recording a two on the par-3 third hole in each round.

Stonehill posted a team score of 745 at the 36-hole, single day event, finishing fourth out of the six teams competing. Host Saint Rose won the team title with a 669 (329-340) team score, posting the two lowest team rounds over the day. Assumption College finished second at 693 (344-349), followed by Adelphi University (362-358=720) in third and then Stonehill in fourth. The Skyhawks trimmed 13 strokes off its team score in the afternoon round from the morning, posting rounds of 379 and 366, moving past fifth place Le Moyne College (376-371=747) in the second round.

Saint Rose swept the top two spots on the individual leaderboard, with Jenna Werle earning medalist honors with a two-round score of 157 (77-80), posting the lone sub-80 round of the day. She bested teammate Erika Fuentes (80-84=164) by seven strokes.

  • Stonehill saw three freshmen make their collegiate debuts at today's event, with sophomore Emily Kase joining Dapron as the only upperclassmen in the team today. Kase improved her score by eight strokes in the afternoon, posting a two-round score of 192 (100-92) to finish 21st overall. She picked up a birdie on the par-4 seventh hole.
  • Freshman Hannah Pignato turned in a 15th place finish in her first collegiate tournament, carding a score of 183 (90-93).
  • Classmates Jenny Perrone and Emma Casey rounded out the Stonehill entries with scores of 198 (104-94) and 202 (101-101), respectively.

Up Next

Stonehill returns to the course on Monday for the Assumption Invitational, hosted by Assumption University, at Cyprian Keyes Golf Club in Boylston, Massachusetts. The tournament was originally scheduled for Friday but has been pushed back to Monday due to the forecast for inclement weather. The Skyhawks will later compete at the Northeast-10 Conference Championships next Thursday, April 22, at Cold Spring Country Club, in Belchertown, Massachusetts.
