KISSIMMEE, Fla. (March 9, 2010) – Stonehill College used two dominant pitching performances to post a pair of shutout wins on day three of its spring break trip at the 2010 Rebel Spring Games at Fortune Road Athletic Complex. The Skyhawks started the day with a 2-0 win over Seton Hill, before blanking Concordia University-Saint Paul, 6-0.

Sophomore Samantha Krantz (Hampton Bays, N.Y./Hampton Bays) tossed a four-hit shutout to lead Stonehill past Seton Hill for her first win of the season (1-1). She struck out three and walked none over the seven innings.

Freshman Courtney Marchand (Dracut, Mass./Timberlane Regional) paced the offense as she hit 2-for-4 with an RBI. Sophomore Chelsea Stryker (Baldwin, N.Y./Kellenberg Memorial) was 2-for-3, while senior Kristen Clark (Brockton, Mass./Brockton) batted 1-for-3 with a run scored.

Stonehill put a run on the board in the top of the first as Marchand singled, reached second on a passed ball and later scored on an RBI groundout by freshman Nicole Eisenmann (East Bridgewater, Mass./East Bridgewater). The Skyhawks added an insurance run in the seventh as Clark led off with a single and later scored on a single by Marchand.


Kait Mendall

In the nightcap, senior Kait Mendall (Middleboro, Mass./Coyle & Cassidy) fired a three-hit shutout to lead Stonehill past Concordia-St. Paul. She struck out two and scattered a pair of walks to improve to 2-0 for the week.

Eisenmann paced the Stonehill offense as she hit 2-for-3 with three RBI. Marchand was 1-for-2 with an RBI and two runs scored.

Concordia freshman Ashley Kluever (Cottage Grove, Minn./Park-Cottage Grove) retired the first ten batters she faced, before the Skyhawks broke through in the fourth and scored the only three runs it would need. Marchand broke the ice with a walk, before freshman Kelsey Wilcox (Canterbury, Conn./Griswold) notched Stonehill’s first hit with a single. Eisenmann followed with an RBI single, before junior Katy Abarr (Richmond, R.I./The Prout School) drove in a run with a sacrifice fly and sophomore Sarah Stumper (St. James, N.Y./Smithtown East) capped the inning with an RBI single.

Stonehill broke the game open with three more in the fifth. Marchand posted an RBI single, before Eisenmann delivered a two-run single to complete the scoring.

Stonehill (3-3, 0-0 NE-10) has Wednesday off, before returning to action with a pair of in-region games on Thursday against Wilmington (Del.) University at 9 a.m., before taking on New York Institute of Technology at 11 a.m.
