Mendall Named NE-10 Pitcher of the Week

Middleboro, Mass., native honored for first time in career following two big opening week wins

EASTON, Mass. (March 18, 2010) – Stonehill College senior co-captain Kait Mendall (Middleboro, Mass./Coyle & Cassidy) has been named the Northeast-10 Pitcher of the Week for softball by the Conference office.

Mendall, who earns the weekly honor for the first time in her career, won both starts for Stonehill in a 3-1-1 week during the Skyhawks annual spring break trip to central Florida. She fired a three-hit shutout to lead Stonehill to a 6-0 win over Concordia University-Saint Paul, adding two strikeouts over the seven innings. Mendall also earned the win in the Skyhawks’ 8-2 triumph over defending National Champions Lock Haven University, yielding the two earned runs while scattering seven hits with three strikeouts over seven innings.

Mendall is 2-0 through her first two appearances this season, with a 1.00 earned run average and five strikeouts over 14 innings, yielding just 0.71 hits per innings pitched. She leads the NE-10 in wins, while ranking fifth in ERA.

Mendall has made 43 appearances over her collegiate career at Stonehill (32 starts) and posted ten wins with one save and a 2.96 career earned run average with 95 strikeouts over 182.1 innings pitched.

Stonehill (3-3-1, 0-0 NE-10) is off until Saturday, March 27, when it visits the University of Bridgeport for a non-conference doubleheader starting at 1 p.m. The Skyhawks home opener is slated for Tuesday, March 30, when they open their Northeast-10 schedule against the University of Massachusetts Lowell for a doubleheader at Gartland Field starting at 3 p.m.
