Saint Rose Holds Off Men's Basketball, 75-71

O'Dell leads four Golden Knights in double-figures with game-high 22 points

EASTON, Mass. (January 30, 2022) – The College of Saint Rose led by as much as 20 points early in the second half but was forced to hold off a comeback effort from Stonehill College, ranked No. 8 in this week's D2SIDA East Region poll, in posting a 75-71 victory in Northeast-10 Conference men's basketball action on Paula Sullivan Court at Merkert Gymnasium this afternoon.

    Saint Rose shot a blistering 69.2-percent (18-for-26) in the first half, including 5-for-7 (71.4%) from three-point distance, to open a double-figure lead on its way to a 17-point (44-27) halftime cushion.
  • The Golden Knights used an 18-1 run to turn a one-point Stonehill lead (14-13) with 12:28 to play in the first half, into a 16-point margin (31-15) just four minutes later after a layup by Bowman.
  • Saint Rose extended its lead to 19 twice before taking the 17-point halftime lead (44-27).
  • Alexander opened the second half scoring with a three-pointer to stretch the Saint Rose lead to 20 (47-27) a minute in.
  • Stonehill scored seven of the next eight to draw within 14 (48-34) after a Chose three-pointer three minutes into the half.
  • The Skyhawks kept chipping away, closing the gap to eight (55-47) after two Chose free-throws 7:17 into the half.
  • Trailing by 11 (71-60) after a layup from sophomore Eric Fleming with 3:56 to play, Stonehill scored nine straight to pull back within a possession (71-69) after a layup from Burnett with 34-seconds to play.
  • Burnett was fouled on the play, but was unable to convert the "and-one" and Saint Rose answered with two free-throws by sophomore Josh McGettigan with 11-seconds remaining.
  • Sims scored a layup inside to pull the Skyhawks back within two, but O'Dell sealed it for Saint Rose with a pair of free-throws with 4.2-seconds left.

Noteworthy

  • Chose scored his sixth 20-point game of the season (17th career), all coming within the last eight games, with his 12th double-figure scoring game of the year (59th career).
  • Chose moved into a tie for 27th place on Stonehill's career scoring list with his 1,227 career points in 97 career games played.
  • Sims reached double-figures for the fifth-straight game, posting his 13th double-figure game this season (25th career).
  • Burnett scored in double-figures for the tenth time this season and grabbed a career-high eight rebounds.
  • After shooting just 32.1-percent (9-for-28) in the first half, the Skyhawks connected at 46.7% (14-for-30) in the second, while holding Saint Rose to 33.3% (8-24) shooting, including 2-for-5 (40%) from downtown.
  • Stonehill outscored Saint Rose 21-16 at the free-throw line, but converted only 67.7% (21-for-31) of its tries.
