Men’s Basketball Holds Off Post Comeback, 65-59

WATERBURY, Conn. (November 27, 2021) - Stonehill College, receiving votes in this week's National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) Division II poll, jumped out to a 19-point halftime lead and held off a second half comeback from Post University to claim a 65-59 victory in non-conference men's basketball action at the Drubner Center this afternoon.

The Details

  • Senior Isaiah Burnett led three Stonehill players in double-figures with a career-high 28 points, aided by 6-for-14 shooting from three-point distance, with six rebounds, two steals and a blocked shot.
  • Senior Andrew Sims added ten points and seven rebounds, while sophomore Jackson Benigni totaled 11 points and six boards.
  • Senior David Jasson paced three from Post in double-figures with 23 points, connecting on 4-of-9 three-pointers, three rebounds and two assists.
  • Senior Isaiah Holmes added ten points, six rebounds and six assists for Post, while classmate DeVonte McCall tallied 12 points, five boards, three blocked shots and two assists.
  • Stonehill led by as much as 23 points (36-13) just before halftime behind a 28-2 run, keyed by 17 points on five three-pointers by Burnett alone.
  • McCall scored the final four points of the opening half to force Stonehill to settle for a 19-point (36-17) halftime advantage.

    Senior Myles Hanson scored the first basket of the second half to push the Stonehill lead back to 21, but Post followed with ten-straight to draw within 11 (38-27) after a Holmes jumper and sparked by back-to-back threes by McCall.
  • Stonehill led by 15 (44-29) after a layup from Benigni, before Post followed with eight-straight from Jasson to pull within seven (44-37) with 8:49 remaining.
  • A three-point play by Holmes had Post back within two (50-48) with 4:42 on the clock, but the Eagles would get no closer.
  • Stonehill followed with the next seven, including five by Burnett including a run capping three-pointer, to restore a nine-point cushion (57-48) with 3:35 to go and the Skyhawks were able to see the game out from there.

Stonehill (5-1, 2-0 NE10) is right back in action tomorrow afternoon when it hosts Molloy College for a non-conference matchup at Merkert Gymnasium at 1 p.m. Post (2-4, 0-0 CACC) hosts American International College on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
