Volleyball Splits Two-Match Sunday With Franklin Pierce

Remick saw a career best 23 kills in the first match, averaging 4.40 kills per set in two matches

RINDGE, New Hampshire (April 20, 2021) – The Stonehill volleyball team split two matches with Franklin Pierce University on Sunday at The Fieldhouse. The Skyhawks won the first match 3-2, with scores of 25-21, 25-27, 25-20, 22-25, 15-12. The Ravens took the win in match two, 3-2, with scores of 23-25, 25-17, 23-25. 25-17, 8-15.

Match 1: Stonehill 3 – Franklin Pierce 2

How it Happened:

  • Stonehill's hitting percentage was higher than Franklin Pierce's in four of the five sets.
  • In the first set there was only two lead changes, as the Skyhawks held the advantage most of the game. Stonehill's largest lead was five, 17-12, before Franklin Pierce cut the deficit to one, 18-17, but the Skyhawks held on for the win.
  • The Ravens got out to a seven-point advantage, 13-6, and the Skyhawks tied the score twice before taking the lead, 25-24. Franklin Pierce put away three-straight points for the win, 27-25.
  • Franklin Pierce scored the first point in the third set and did not see the lead again, as Stonehill won the game 25-20, for a game-advantage, 2-1.
  • The Ravens scored eight-straight points in the fourth game, 9-2, as the score was tied five times, 20-20, before Franklin Pierce went on a 5-1 run to tie the match, 2-2, with a score of 25-21.
  • Stonehill crept out to a five-point lead, 13-8, in the deciding set and the Ravens came within two, 13-11, before two kills by Peragine sealed the deal, 15-12.

How it Happened:

  • Stonehill held the lead for just about all of the first game, 23-18, before Franklin Pierce tallied seven-straight points to take the win, 25-23.
  • The two teams went back and forth to start the second game, until Stonehill tied it 10-10 and ran with the lead. Their biggest advantage of eight, was seen twice, including game point, 25-17.
  • Franklin Pierce saw the lead for some of game three, as Stonehill's biggest lead of five, 19-14, wasn't enough. The Ravens went on an 11-4 run taking a 25-23 win.
  • The Skyhawks' .323 hitting percentage in the fourth set was the highest of the match, as they tied the match, 2-2, with a 25-17 score.
  • The Ravens saw the lead for the fifth set as their .312 hitting percentage put them on top for the win, 15-8.

Stonehill hosts Saint Anselm College for a single match this Sunday, April 25 with a start time of 1:00 p.m. at Merkert Gymnasium, where the Skyhawks will recognize their three seniors prior to the match.
