Pierson leads four event wins for Skyhawks with school-record performance in shot put

EASTON, Mass. (April 30, 2016) – The Stonehill College women's track & field team, ranked first in this week's U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) East Region Computer Rankings, won its home Skyhawk Invitational at W.B. Mason Stadium this afternoon, taking four event wins and seeing one school record fall in the shot put.

Stonehill compiled 297 points to claim the team title, finishing ahead of runners-up University of Rhode Island (270 points) and third-place finisher Boston College (230 points). Fellow Northeast-10 Conference members Assumption College (135 points) and Merrimack College (116.50 points) rounded out the top-five of the 11-team field.

Senior Trisha Pierson (East Hanover, New Jersey/Hanover Park) won the shot put and finished first in the discus throw to lead Stonehill to the team title. She broke the school record in the shot put with her first place distance of 42-feet, 1.50-inches, breaking the previous program record she set last week at the Holy Cross Invitational. Sophomore Gaelin Farrell (Baldwinville, Massachusetts/Narragansett Regional) placed fifth in the shot put with a distance of 39-feet, 1.75-inches, while classmate Julianne Holbrook (Pembroke, Massachusetts/Pembroke) came in ninth in the discus throw with a distance of 110-feet, 3-inches.

Junior All-American Nicole Borofski (Plymouth, Massachusetts/Plymouth North) posted an event win in the 1500-meter run, finishing first and provisionally qualifying for the NCAA Championships with a time of 4:30.63. Classmate Alexandra Buonfiglio (Lynnfield, Massachusetts/Lynnfield) placed third with a personal best time of 4:40.88.

Borofski also ran the lead leg of Stonehill's 4x800-meter A relay team which defeated the B-relay with a winning time of 9:19.66. Borofski handed the baton to junior All-American Aisha McAdams (North Kingston, Rhode Island/North Kingston), before freshman Jillian Caiazzi (Marlborough, Massachusetts/Marlborough) ran third leg and then senior All-American Erin Carberry (Milton, Massachusetts/Thayer Academy) ran the anchor leg.

Junior Tulie Finley-Moise (Lexington, Massachusetts/Lexington) led three Stonehill competitors that finished in the top ten in the 100-meter dash with a time of 12.59 seconds. Senior Leanne Kent (North Andover, Massachusetts/Central Catholic) placed fifth in 12.66 seconds, while freshman Hannah Ameen (Andover, Massachusetts/Andover) took sixth in 12.85 seconds.

Freshman Olivia Dexter (East Calais, Vermont/U-32) finished in fifth place in the 200-meter dash with a time of 25.56 seconds, while senior Jordan Gray (Warwick, Rhode Island/Toll Gate) placed sixth in 25.70 seconds. Gray also earned a top three finish in the 400-meters, placing third in 58.13 second. McAdams was the top division II runner in the 800-meters and finished in fifth with a time of 2:15.55.

Junior Nicole Borofski provisionally qualified for the NCAA Championships in the 1500-meter run with a time of 4:30.63.

Senior Jeana Esernio (Stony Brook, New York/Ward Melville) recorded a top three finish in the 100-meter hurdles, finishing in 15.04 seconds, while Carberry and freshman Krista Fernandes (Taunton, Massachusetts/Coyle & Cassidy) placed fifth and sixth in the 400-meter hurdles with times of 1:04.89 and 1:07.17, respectively.

Stonehill's 4x100-meter relay team consisting of Finley-Moise, Ameen, Dexter and sophomore Emily Polvere (Somers, New York/Somers) placed second in 47.97 seconds.

Freshman Courtney Daggett (Attleboro, Massachusetts/Attleboro) paced three Stonehill entries in the high jump, placing third with a height of 5-feet, 3-inches. Classmate Ashley Daggett (Attleboro, Massachusetts/Attleboro) finished in fourth with a height of 5-feet, 1-inches, while freshman Colleen Perry (Weymouth, Massachusetts/Weymouth) came in fifth, clearing 4-feet, 11-inches.

Sophomore Alison Tobin (Hudson, Massachusetts/Hudson) cleared a height of 10-feet, 2-inches to place fourth in the pole vault. Senior Jenn Tenczar (Chicopee, Massachusetts/Chicopee) finished sixth in the hammer throw with a distance of 139-feet, 3-inches, while junior Margaret Lepley (Lynn, Massachusetts/Bishop Fenwick) placed eighth with a distance of 135-feet, 7-inches. Lepley also competed in the javelin and finished in sixth with a throw of 110-feet, 10-inches.

Stonehill opens its championship season next weekend when it competes at the Northeast-10 Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships, hosted by American International College on Friday and Saturday.
