Record Breaking Day Leads Women’s Track & Field to Third Place Finish at Minutemen Invitational

Four records go down as the Skyhawks place third

AMHERST, Mass.  (April 16, 2016) – The Stonehill College women's track & field team, ranked No. 1 in this week's U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) East Region Computer Rankings, broke four school records today in turning in a third-place finish at the Minuteman Invitational, hosted by the University of Massachusetts Amherst.

Stonehill, which was one of two Division II programs competing in the eight-team field, posted three event wins and 17 top-five finishes in compiling its 122 points. UMass Amherst won the team title with 203 points, followed by Holy Cross (151 points) and Stonehill (122 points). Central Connecticut State University (95 points) and Quinnipiac University (89 points) rounded out the top five.

Junior All-American Nicole Borofski (Plymouth, Massachusetts/Plymouth North) turned in one of the three event wins for the Skyhawks in the 800-meter dash with a time of 2:13.53, while also placing second in the 1500-meter run in 4:32.25. Her 1500-meter time provisionally qualify her for the NCAA Championship held in Saint Leo, Florida.

Borofski was joined in the 800 by junior All-American Aisha McAdams (North Kingstown, Rhode Island/North Kingstown), who finished third and posted a time of 2:14.43, and senior Molly Hellman (Rumson, New Jersey/Rumson-Fairhaven Regional) who finished tenth with a time of 2:23.28.

Freshman Olivia Dexter (East Calais, Vermont/U-32) led four Stonehill entries in the 100-meter dash, placing first in a school record time of 12.21 seconds. Sophomore Emily Polvere (Somers, New York/Somers) placed ninth with a time of 12.46 seconds, and junior Tulie Finley-Moise (Lexington, Massachusetts/Lexington) followed in 11th, clocking in at 12.55 seconds.

Freshman Courtney Daggett (Attleboro, Massachusetts/Attleboro) leaped to a school record in the high jump, clearing 5-feet, 7.25-inches, finishing in second place and provisionally qualifies for the NCAA Championship. Classmates Colleen Perry (Weymouth, Massachusetts/Weymouth) and Ashley Daggett (Attleboro, Massachusett/Attleboro) finished tied for eighth, as they both cleared 4-feet, 11.50-inches.

Sophomore Alison Tobin (Hudson, Massachusetts/Hudson) placed fifth in the pole vault and tied the program record, clearing a height of 10-feet, 8-inches, while junior Margaret Lepley (Lynn, Massachusetts/Bishop Fenwick) set the new school record in the hammer throw with a distance of 140-feet, 8-inches, good for fifth place. Senior Jenn Tenczar (Chicopee, Massachusetts/Chicopee) placed sixth in the weight throw with a distance of 139-feet.

Senior Jeana Esernio (Stony Brook, New York/Ward Melville) won the 100-meter hurdles in 14.54 seconds, while senior Erin Carberry (Milton, Massachusetts/Thayer Academy) and freshman Krista Fernandes (Taunton, Massachusetts/Coyle & Cassidy) finished fourth and fifth, respectively in the 400-meter hurdles with times of 1:05.43 and 1:05.83.

Senior Trisha Pierson (East Hanover, New Jersey/Hanover Park) placed second in both the shot put and discus throw with distances of 40-feet, .75-inches and 125-feet, one inch, respectively. Sophomore Gaelin Farrell (Baldwinville, Massachusetts/Narragansett Regional) finished fifth in the shot put with a distance of 38-feet, 4.25-inches.


Sophomore Alison Tobin tied the school record in the pole vault, clearing a height of 10-feet, 8-inches.

Stonehill's 4x100-meter relay of Finley-Moise, Polvere, freshman Hannah Ameen (Andover, Massachusetts/Andover), and Dexter placed fourth in 49.04 seconds, while the 4x400-meter relay of Carberry, Esernio, Fernandes and Kent finished fifth with a time of 4:03.04.

Freshman Makenzie Cyr (Douglas, Massachusetts/Douglas) finished in third place in the 5000-meter run with a time of 18:26.13, while junior Alexandra Grimaldo (Marlborough, Massachusetts/Marlborough) clocked in with a time of 18:29.44, good for fourth.

Senior Leanne Kent (North Andover, Massachusetts/Central Catholic) placed eighth in the 400-meter dash with a time of 1:00.79, while junior Alexandra Buonfiglio (Lynnfield, Massachusetts/Lynnfield) came in eighth in the 1500-meter run in 4:47.22.

Tobin led three Stonehill runners in the top 15 in the 200-meter dash with a time of 26.87 seconds. Finley-Moise and Polvere came in eighth and 13th, respectively with times of 27.17 and 27.51 seconds.

Senior Stephanie Fitzgerald (Coventry, Rhode Island/Coventry) finished sixth in the triple jump with a leap of 34-feet, 5.75-inches.

Stonehill will be back in action next Friday and Saturday at the Larry Ellis Invitational, hosted by Princeton University, and the Holy Cross Invitational, hosted by the College of the Holy Cross.
