St. Martin Named NE-10 Player of the Week

Providence, R.I., native earns award for first time after netting five goals in 2-0 week; St. Martin also tabbed "Ace's Athlete of the Week"

EASTON, Mass. (August 31, 2009) - Stonehill College junior Kirstie St. Martin (Providence, R.I./Mount Saint Charles Academy) was named the Northeast-10 Player of the Week for women's soccer this afternoon by the Conference office. St. Martin was also tabbed "Ace's Athlete of the Week" for the entire Stonehill athletics department.

St. Martin scored five of Stonehill's six goals during a 2-0 start to its season over the weekend. She netted a hat trick in Saturday's 3-1 victory over Holy Family University, before adding two goals in Sunday's 3-2 win over Georgian Court University - an NCAA Tournament participant last fall - scoring the match-winner in double-overtime.

Through the first weekend in the season, St. Martin shares the NE-10 lead with five goals and ten points. Her two match-winning goals are also good for a share of first among Conference leaders.

St. Martin has totaled 16 goals and six assists for 38 points in 31 career matches played. Her five goals this weekend are already just one shy of her career season-best of six set last season.

Stonehill (2-0-0, 0-0-0 NE-10) is back in action on Saturday when it opens its Northeast-10 Conference and home schedule by hosting American International College at 11 a.m.
