Reuter leads Skyhawks to 11th-straight NE10 win with career-high 15 points
EASTON, Mass. (January 20, 2018) – Stonehill College, ranked No. 23 in this week's D2SIDA Top 25 Media Poll and third in the D2SIDA East Region poll, pulled away in the second half to claim a 71-54 victory over the University of New Haven in Northeast-10 Conference women's basketball action on Paula Sullivan Court at Merkert Gymnasium this afternoon.
Sophomore Gabrielle Reuter (Plymouth, Massachusetts/Lawrence Academy) scored a career-high 15 points in 12 minutes off the bench, on 7-of-10 shooting from the floor, to lead Stonehill to its sixth-straight win overall and 11th-straight in NE10 play. She also contributed seven points and three blocked shots, while senior Samantha Hyslip (Westford, Massachusetts/Westford Academy) shook off first half foul trouble to record her eighth double-double of the season (15th career) with ten points, a game-high ten rebounds (five offensive) and two assists. Junior Tayler Wornum (Randolph, Massachusetts/Archbishop Williams) contributed a season-high ten points on 5-of-8 shooting and a season-best eight boards, while senior Elizabeth Grip (Shrewsbury, Massachusetts/Shrewsbury) chipped in with seven rebounds and five blocked shots as the Skyhawks dominated the glass with a 54-30 rebounding margin, pulling down 21 offensive boards.
Senior Kelly Martin (Scituate, Massachusetts/Scituate) contributed 12 points, aided by 6-for-6 shooting from the free-throw line, seven rebounds and four assists, while sophomore Grace Carter (Arlington, Massachusetts/Arlington) registered nine points, four assists and three boards.

Senior Quana Smith (Bronx, New York/Harry S. Truman) was the only New Haven player in double-figures with 14 points on 4-of-7 shooting, including 1-for-2 from beyond the arc, while draining 5-of-6 free-throws to go with five rebounds and two assists. Junior Alexandria Kerr (Montclair, New Jersey/Montclair) added nine points, seven rebounds and three assists.
New Haven held an eight point lead (24-16) two minutes into the second quarter, before Stonehill pulled within three (24-21) after two free-throws from junior Maty Diabate (Holden, Massachusetts/Wachusett Regional) midway through the quarter. Junior Sianna Van Dyke (Kingston, New York/Kingston) answered initially with a three-pointer for the Chargers, but the Skyhawks scored seven-straight, keyed by a three-pointer from senior Courtney Walsh (Windham, New Hampshire/Central Catholic), to grab the lead (28-27) after a Wornum layup with 1:54 to play in the half.
Stonehill maintained the advantage heading into halftime, and then Carter buried a three-pointer and Hyslip scored a layup to push its lead to six (35-29) less than 90-seconds into the second half. The Skyhawks then followed that up with a nine-point run to open a 13-point cushion (44-31) after a three-point play from Reuter with 6:08 remaining in the third quarter. Stonehill made 12-of-21 shots from the field (57.1%) in the frame, outscoring New Haven 30-13, to take control.
Carter converted a three-point play to push Stonehill's lead to 15 (55-40) with 1:24 remaining in the third, before five-straight points from Hyslip secured an 18-point margin (60-42) heading to the fourth quarter. The Skyhawks lead grew to 22 points (66-44) 2:14 into the fourth after a Reuter layup, and the hosts were not threatened the rest of the way.
Stonehill (15-2, 11-1 NE10) closes out its three-game home stand here at Merkert Gym on Tuesday night, when it hosts Pace University for an NE10 matchup at 5:30 p.m. Tickets can be purchased in advance online at stonehillskyhawks.com.
