Hyslip Earns Spalding NE10 Player of the Week for First Time

EASTON, Mass. (January 15, 2018) – Stonehill College senior forward Samantha Hyslip (Westford, Massachusetts/Westford Academy) has earned Spalding Northeast-10 Conference Player of the Week honors for women's basketball for the first time in her career by the league office today.

Hyslip led Stonehill to a pair of key NE10 road wins by averaging a double-double with 18.0 points and 12.0 rebounds per game, shooting 55.2-percent from the field (16-for-29), and chipping in 2.5 assists per game. She opened the week with a team-high 19 points on 9-of-16 shooting from the floor in Wednesday's 76-63 win at The College of Saint Rose, netting 12 points in the first half, to go with nine rebounds, two assists and a steal. Hyslip scored 13 of her team-best 17 points in the second half of Saturday's 63-52 win at Southern Connecticut State University, ranked eighth in the region, including the 1000th point if her career, finishing 7-for-13 shooting, with a career-high matching 15 rebounds (seven offensive) and three assists for her seventh double-double of the season (14th career).

Hyslip joins classmate Kelly Martin (Scituate, Massachusetts/Scituate) who has collected the honors twice this season, as NE10 Players of the Week this year. Hyslip has started all 15 games for Stonehill this winter, ranking second on the team and eighth among NE10 leaders in scoring with 14.1 points per game, while leading the Skyhawks with 9.3 rebounds (7th NE10) and contributing 1.7 assists in 27.9 minutes per game. She ranks fourth in the NE10 with 3.1 offensive rebounds per game, second in shooting percentage at 53.7-percent from the field and 11th in free-throw percentage, converting at 78.3% (54-for-69) this year.

Hyslip has scored in double-figures in 14 of Stonehill's 15 games this season, posting seven double-doubles, leading the Skyhawks in scoring six times and rebounding ten games. She scored a season-high 22 points in a 75-63 win at Roberts Wesleyan College on December 11, with her career-best a 26-point effort against Merrimack College on November 22, 2016.

Hyslip became the 31st student-athlete in program history to reach 1,000 career points with two free-throws in the opening minute of the fourth quarter at Southern Connecticut State on Saturday, finishing the game with 1,006 points. In 99 career games played, with 63 starts, she has also totaled 636 rebounds, 130 assists and 46 blocked shots. She currently ranks eighth in program history, shooting 49.4-percent from the field over her career.

Hyslip, the 2014-15 NE10 Rookie of the Year, earned All-NE10 second team honors as a junior. She collected NE10 Rookie of the Week honors three times as a freshman and been named to the NE10 Commissioner's Honor Roll for having a semester GPA of 3.0 or higher all six semesters, earning Athletic Director's Honor Roll status three times. Hyslip was also named to the NE10 All-Rookie Team her freshman year.

Stonehill (13-2, 9-1 NE10), receiving votes in last week's D2SIDA Top 25 media poll and ranked third in this week's D2SIDA East Region poll, returns to action with a pair of home games this week, starting Wednesday night, when it hosts Le Moyne College for an NE10 clash at 5:30 p.m. The Skyhawks host the University of New Haven at Merkert Gymnasium on Saturday at 1:30 p.m. Tickets for all Stonehill basketball home games can be purchased online at stonehillskyhawks.com.
